Default Black Buildup on Injen Exhaust.... due to TRD reflash?

Anyone else have this issue?

I am trying to figure out why I have such a hard time keeping my exhaust clean after the SC was installed last spring. Is it running too rich? Does it need to be leaned out a bit?

I was thinking of trying to add a MMW Intake for the SC, or something akin to that, because I understand that will lean it out some. But will that cause a CEL? Would a 9.5 pulley lean it out some?

I have a the greddy sp2 and definitley have a large amount of black buildup after the sc install. I'm assuming its due to the rich reflash.

I had asked this question a while back and no one seemed to have any answers. I think it is just running a little rich but that is just my opinion.

The TRD reflash runs very rich (guess they have a lot of money ) . It would not be a bad idea to get some sort of piggyback or unichip that way you can manually adjust and tune the afr's.

Whats funny is I've been through two motors and destroyed 2 cats due to a lean condition with the "rich" TRD tune. This while my exhaust shows the same blackened condition. The only sense I can make of this is that the blow-by is causing fuel contamination and a lower octane rating. Our non-ventilated, super-charged tC's are not safe!

What do you mean not safe? All I have heard is that TRD/Toyota is extremely conservative.....

the S/C tends to run lean at mid RPM points and sometimes up high.

is this a real big issue? what is the meaning of "running rich"? Inform me because I'm planning on getting my s/c installed my a dealer (after I buy it from eBay of course) and then driving it southbound to get it retuned with the greddy emanage...

Just from what I've experienced. From what I understand there is excess crankcase pressure which causes blow-by, sludge build up, and contaminated fuel. This also might explain why some supercharged motors guzzle oil. Sciondad had a thread awhile back that concluded that two catch cans would be required to fully ventilate our motor. His threads and especially Garage1217's thread really opened my eyes to the problems that I've experienced that go beyond broken brackets and warped bearings.

I attribute the extra carbon buildup to my lack of cats and the fact that I backfire at least once a week :p
