Default Brand new 2007 TC...tranny issues

I've had my manual 07 TC for a few days now and am experiencing my first problem (already?) When the engine is cold there is considerable vibration from the tranny when shifting into 3rd and sometimes 2nd. Also, when downshifting from 5th to 4th, I have to double clutch to get it into 4th gear. The scenerio is lift throttle while exiting the highway and downshifting from 5th, when 5th gear RPMs are 2K-3K. The tranny just refuses to go into 4th. I have to dis- and then re-engage the clutch. I also sometimes get a loud whining noise* when I lift throttle (and let the engine brake) at 65 -70, and also when I'm going uphill at anywhere from 40-50 :/

The problems surfaced the first time I took her on the highway and have been sporatic over the 700 miles I drove it in the past 3 days. Guess it goes back to the dealer before I even get to pull the temporary tag off

Anyone else experience these issues? Thanks!

*EDIT: I can't say for sure its coming from the tranny, or even the engine. I suppose it could be the tires, but it sure does sound "mechanical."

sounds like a normal shifting tc to me! Not to be a wise ___ or anything, but are u experianced with driving a man. trans? cause if not the tc is a tricky one at first until u get used to it! It's tricky even with experianced driver's too! But take it back anyways just to be on the safe side!

Fromn what you describe, I may make a couple of suggestions:

When exiting the freeway and you are running 2-3K RPM in 5th, you very well may find it tough to get into 4th because of the syncros. Because the tC manual uses a constant mesh transmission (I.e. all gears are always in mesh.) That said your trnasmission will anturally resist shifting from 5th @3000RPM to a lower gear until the downshift gear (in this case 4th) spins up to speed (as it was freely spinning while you were on the freeway and most probsably will need to spin up to compensate.)
At a minimum, take it into the dealer because of the additional symptoms you describe (wining and noise on hill climb...)

are u sure that WHINING isnt really a WHISTLING coming from the air intake because of the extra air going in? thats sounds like it to me

I've noticed the samething going from 5th-4th. I made it a habit to double clutch when downshifting in everyday driving.

I have an 07 and I have the transmission whine all the time. Transmission whine is even worst on 4WD cars.
I dont have that transmission problem, but I always rev-match at that engine speed. If you must downshift as tc_2ner said, rev-match will be a good idea b/c not doing so puts extra wear to the clutch.... plus it makes for a must faster downshift.

FYI I've been driving manuals for 15 years now. I'm not the problem (I hope)

Rev matching DOES NOT work, tried it already! The 2nd/3rd problem happens mostly when the engine is cold. The 5th to 4th problem happens all the time.

jschneideriii, that crossed my mind as well. However, on a cold engine, it wouldn't shift from 5th to 4th at low (2000rpms in 5th) RPMs either :/

It goes into Scion tomorrow, I'll let you know what they say. I was aware of issues with the XA and XB but I didn't see too much about the TC tranny. It's a nice car otherwise, so hopefully they'll git'er fixed.

i bought my 07 tC back in december. ive been driving manual trans since i got my license. when i bought my tC, it was a freak to drive at first...it was alot different and took awhile to get used to shifting correctly without jerking. after a week or so everything was fine. but i do notice when its cold out (and i havent gotten to drive it in warm weather yet) it doesnt shift as smooth as when the car is warmed up

well the tranny whine is normal on all tc's so no worries there!. but about not being able to get to 4th.....well thatas just odd....only things i can think of is: the clutch isnt down all the way...your missin the gates completely....or the synchros dont work right.........u said u have driing experience...but just to be sure make sure ur all the way on the clutch...many ppl make mistakes sumtimes! but good luck keep us posted!

homersapien, I tried what you have described on my car today on the exressway and I do not have any type of trouble going from 5th to 4th.
Shifting does require a bit more finesse when it's cold out and the car is still below normal operating temps.
I hope Scion can figure it out for ya.

My wifes tC has a similar problem going from 3rd to 2nd but only when its cold out. Took it in to the dealer and they found nothing wrong and it hasn't done it since. I' ve had no problems with mine so far.
