View Full Version : Trunk panel black tabs
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 03:54 PM I was wondering does anyone know where I could order or pick up some of these black tabs that hold the panel up. I'm doing a rear wiper removal and I can't get them out without breaking them so I was wondering if there is anywhere I could just buy some more? Are they a certain size or something?
snowromance 03-06-2007, 04:24 PM i think you will have to go to the dealer to order them man. i cant think of just some place to buy them like in a bag or something. are you sure the only way to remove them is by breaking them? ive never removed it but havent seen anything yet that is 1 time use only. ???
OldYeller 03-06-2007, 04:24 PM They probably don't cost much from the dealer. Why can't you get them out without breaking?

outrage36862 03-06-2007, 04:27 PM When I pull on them with the panel removal tool I bought they just seem 2 be held in by a clamp they have on them of some sort and I can't get them 2 turn loose. I ease them out but the 3 I have done just come popping out and they are broke.
snowromance 03-06-2007, 04:33 PM im pretty sure they should just pop right out man. without breaking. oh well just go to the dealer to order more...wouldnt be surprised if they charge you $1+ each for little piece of plastic :-(
CHPRBOX8 03-06-2007, 04:34 PM i just use a screwdriver and they come right out no breaking
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 04:59 PM I just talked to a guy in the parts department and he said they were 86 cents a piece. Guess I can't smoke any crack the rest of this week.
Baine 03-06-2007, 05:05 PM I just replaced all of mine with a removable style. Picked them up at NAPA for
about $2.50 for a box of four. You need the 1/4" size and they have a threaded
screw in the center to make it easier to remove. Just push them in the hole and then
press in the center screw until it goes pop. To remove them you unscrew the center
part about 3/4 of the way and pull the whole thing out. They are called panel fasteners.
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 05:07 PM cool thx man I might do that instead. :)
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 05:12 PM I just called napa and they told me I needed 2 call the hardware store.
snowromance 03-06-2007, 05:16 PM gotta love napa
Baine 03-06-2007, 05:24 PM Try this one from Advance Autoparts

outrage36862 03-06-2007, 06:10 PM I think I'll order those even though it will be more money than the one from the dealer. If I ever have 2 get back there again I can get back there with ease.
BoxOffice 03-06-2007, 06:20 PM Hey, I popped mine out with a regular old fork out of the silverware drawer! Just slip the centre of the tab between two of the fingers of the fork - not sure why you're having such a problem!
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 06:23 PM Because I quit smoking about 5 months ago and life is doing everything it can 2 get me 2 start again.
Alchemist80 03-06-2007, 06:43 PM i broke half of mine and the other half popped out alright. Its weird. Seems like the prongs get stuck inside the tailgate and they break trying to bend backwards out of there.

Well, best of luck with that!
outrage36862 03-06-2007, 07:21 PM Yea it is weird how they do because the last six I pulled out came straight out. Thx everyone for your help and quick replys. Your all awesome!
Baine 03-06-2007, 07:32 PM the factory inserts are only intended for perminant installations
HondAudio 03-06-2007, 11:56 PM I bought one. It cost 86 cents. They seem to be made of a really dry, brittle plastic, almost like they were made to break :X

jwaj2002 03-07-2007, 12:02 AM I've removed mine atleast half a dozen times no, no problems
Lowes has them. Specialty fasteners section (the blue drawers in the fasteners aisle.)
DavesX 03-07-2007, 12:13 AM Try an auto paint store, They usually have them in stock to supply the body shops.
biggs17 03-07-2007, 12:26 AM yeah they come out easy *laughs* I broke the whole fiber board back panel trying to get mine out... Didn't see anyway to turn'em, but the cool thing is, I didn't break any of the pins *snicker*
But I'm going to put some cool upholstery and some of those easy screw in napa body panel pins...
outrage36862 03-07-2007, 02:56 AM Thx you guys for the help. :)
motodad870 01-31-2012, 09:42 PM I went to Lowes and went into the aisle that has specialty screws, washers, etc. Look for the drawers that say automotive and you can find them there. There are differant sizes long or short fat/skinny. bring an old one with you, nor expensive.
