View Full Version : Who has installed their own hood pins? *diy link on pg 2*
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 03:13 AM Ive searched and come up with minimal results. Im looking for the people who were brave enough to DIY on their 500 Cf hoods. im getting mine in a week or so and was wondering what i would need? do i need a special bit? any drilling tips beside make sure you got the hole in the right spot? ive heard that i should tape around the hole to prevent rising of the hood? any tips? pics would be a great help.
ricexizxgood 03-07-2007, 03:33 AM I might be installing hood pins in mine soon. Watching...
raytrix 03-07-2007, 06:31 AM also thinking about hood pins.. i have the motor fx cf hood..
SquallLHeart 03-07-2007, 06:35 AM i installed mine.
wear a dust mask... (very important)
dremel... and some tape will be fine.
foreverandaminute 03-07-2007, 06:41 AM SquallLHeart, what is it that you don't do??
Mightygnu 03-07-2007, 06:47 AM he does everything, im pretty sure of it. hence the phone number in his signature that states "On call 24/7. need help? (408)375-0939 "
SquallLHeart 03-07-2007, 06:50 AM uhmm... i can't really drop a tranny and take apart an engine?
though i probably could find the info and figure it out if i really had to.... :P
that LSD looks pretty nice to me..... just not to my wallet.... but i'd install it myself... (with maybe some help)
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 01:08 PM so i should dremel instead of power drill or does it matter? after hearing some stories (some from tC owners also) hood pins seem like a requirment unless you like the fact that your hood can explode on you lol
tcridinclean 03-07-2007, 01:33 PM u dont need hood pins if u get a vis hood
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 01:43 PM and why is that? they claim to have top quality latches? its not even a decision for me anymore i dont wanna risk it. just gotta decide on what color now. What would look good on a 05 BSP w/ a cf hood?
raytrix 03-07-2007, 01:55 PM where do u guys buy the hood pins?
tcridinclean 03-07-2007, 02:33 PM my friend has had a vis cf hood on his accord almost a year and has 0 problems with running no hood pins
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 02:46 PM you can check almost any online retailer raytrix. running a cf hood w/o hoodpins is like smoking. some people do all their lives w/o a problem, but others get cancer. i guess if your lucky you dont need hoodpins, but im not very lucky when it comes to cars, so im going to be running pins
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 06:16 PM bump
VoLktc 03-07-2007, 08:18 PM after much debate i think im going with the aerocatch system. pricey but looks pretty nice and looks a hell of alot better then normal pins imo.
VoLktc 03-08-2007, 04:02 PM if anybody is intrested in a write up speak up and ill take some pics of the install
raytrix 03-08-2007, 04:19 PM I am very interested in a write up volktC!
also where can i by this aerocatch system?
tC9o9 03-08-2007, 04:30 PM aerocatch hood pins are the best, they are very tight and they look good.
anyways, we installed hood pins saturday night on the teams car. we used a step drill and some tape, came out really nice imho, however i forgot which hood pins we used.
VoLktc 03-08-2007, 05:07 PM ray check www.aerocatch.com click the dealers i got mine from coast fab 96 bones for the ones that lock
VoLktc 03-08-2007, 05:08 PM hey black did you install aerocatch pins or just the normal ones?
tC9o9 03-08-2007, 05:34 PM normal hood pins.
VoLktc 03-08-2007, 09:49 PM ahh k. look for the diy in a couple weeks ill probably be installing my hood over spring break
raytrix 03-10-2007, 04:29 AM alright! thanks volktc
and Ali you wanna help me when I get them!?
tC9o9 03-10-2007, 04:32 AM i guess i can, my spring break is coming up soon so i got nothing to do.
but i would call Motor-FX first to see if its safe to drill the hood, because after time the hood becomes stale and it can crack if you drill into it.
i think you told me the hood was like 5 months old right?
but if its okay, then i will help most definately.. but i dont have the tools necessary.
iheartzombies 03-10-2007, 04:32 AM Been going strong for about 3 months with no hood pins
ricexizxgood 03-10-2007, 04:41 AM I just recieved mine from 365 motorwerks today. I'll probaby try installing it this weekend.
ricexizxgood 03-11-2007, 11:05 AM Here's a nice DIY I found http://vamp.darkravers.net/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=118
VoLktc 03-11-2007, 02:20 PM nice find the idea of using a led on the pin is a good idea. im worried if i drilled from the bottom up, could that seperate the clear coat or the cf form the fiberglass skeleton?
