I looked at cars yesterday and fell in love with the "box". My family thinks I'm nuts. Please convince my family that there are tons of people around the nation that have them and love them! Thinking Black Cherry or Thundercloud...By the way, my husband drives a boring Ford Explorer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say "please convince my family" I hope you don't mean you can't get the car you want without their approval.

Im with him ^^ if you have a husband I would think you could buy the car with out your familys approval. Unless you mean your husband & kids maybe? I would think the kids would love the thing though, that is if you have any.

in many cases, getting a new car is a whole family decision...

i would have them come with you to a dealership for a test drive... most of my family/friends didn't really like it at first either... sitting inside it and driving it around change most everyone's opinion...

good luck and hope you get your box...

So are you going to do what they expect you to do to fit into the box they have you pegged in or are you going to do what pleases you and gets you into a Box?

I love how there's not a lot of middle ground on the xB. People either love them or don't like them. It is a testament to the cutting edge style they possess. It doesn't fit into people's comfortable, pre-conceived notions about a car, at least what they've been told a car should be.

You might start by pointing out that your xB will hold as many people as a Ford Exploder, in equal comfort.

The xB also has a higher cargo capacity than the Exploder, last time I checked the Explorer is only rated to carry like 750-800 lbs if that much, the xB is closer to 900.

The superior engineering and quality is evident if you compare nearly ANY Fraud...er...I mean FORD product to ANY Toyota. They aren't even in the same league.

No offense, but the Ford Explorer is sort of the default, point A to point B suburban car for people that spend no more than 5 seconds researching their car decision and know little or nothing about cars.

People who buy xB's are either buying them because they think they look cool, or they recognize the rare value and practicality and trust the Toyota brand. Either way, some thought is involved.

An xB costs nearly half what an Explorer does, holds as many people, more weight (if a little less cargo) and gets close to twice the fuel mileage. It's also a Toyota, which means it won't be recalled 7 times like that Ford probably will.

If you really think about it, it's hard to come up with any solid reason to buy an Exploder over an xB.... Unless you live in Vermont and need snow traction 5 months of the year or tow a boat the Exploder offers no practical advantages really (unless you are going to count a litanny of useless accessories and options)

Mine does too. When I took my mother to look at the car, I walked her into the toyota dealership and tald her to guess which car I was buying - she looked at the xB, and said she knew I'd probably drive that ugly car. She was embarassed that I was buying it. She couldn't get the couratge to tell me that she didn't like it, she just kept on saying "It's ... nice, Ryan" when I asked her what she thought :P

I guess I got lucky every family member liked my car, now my friends half did and half didn't, but in the end its what YOU are driving. Do what YOU need to do.

It's all about the MPG, the inside cabin room, and price for convincing the unamused.

Hey small world....my name's Ryan too and I have a funny parent-seeing-the-xb story too. :p

I picked my father up at the airport one night, 3 days after I got the car. he knew I was probably getting A car, but didn't know when or what I would be getting.... So I roll up in a white xB...

My dad's just starting like WTF is this?

I open the door and he gets in and says "So....does the airport know you drove this thing offf the runway??"

I'm just LMAO... I told him not to worry, I'd unhitched the trailer full of luggage before I came to pick him up hahahaha..

My parents made fun of the xB...until they actually test drove it. I'm glad that changed their minds and maybe it will change yours too.

Besides the shape, tell them about the great MPG and starting price.

I got my xB. My mom thought I was crazy, that is untill I let her drive it. She was hooked and now owns a red one with a moo roof. She loves it. My older neice might get one too ... though now she is saying she might want a cooper :(

I like mine cause of the cow look and all. When it was all white everyone said it was some kinda milk trunk or somthing [that was kewl too]... now everyone thinks I work for Gateway (one down side of the bull box). The other down side is everyone asks about them ... what are they?, how much gas mpg you get? Is it electric or what? All kinda stuff. The bull box get additional cowments ifrom humans mooing at it. Real cow types know the diff.

I love it for many reasions...
1: Its just fun to drive
2: You can see realy well out the windows (tm) - looking out the front is just different for anything I have ever driven.
3: The steario sounds not to bad ... cud be better but is OK for a stock system
4: Can hold a lot of stuff. With the seats down I can get just about as much stuff in as my old S15 Jimmy - this is due a better layout - what I need to carry just packs much better in the xB. I holds three telescopes and camping stuff for two for a weekend just fine.
5: Scion Owners are kewl ... we wave and beep at each other ... like some kinda cowmersial for the Arrow or somthing (remember the Arrow?)
6: It is the easyest car to get in and out of.
7: It is the ONLY car I have been in that I can sit up with out hitting my head on the roof (I'm not tall but have a long body - think George Jetson)

It cud use a bit more power, adjustable pedels would be nice, 100 MPG would be kewl. Now if I can just mount my LASER... (he he).
