I think it is time to take a financial breather for a while. Besides, my Mini Cooper is feeling neglected.

JdMBboFSD 08-27-2004, 04:44 AM this thread is useless without pictures......
elwood58 08-27-2004, 05:37 AM I will get pictures done tomorrow, and post them. Work hasn't given me many daylight hours lately.
elwood58 08-27-2004, 04:22 PM Below are links to the pictures. Non-Broadband Users should avoid these, as the images are large.

scottwood2 08-28-2004, 11:06 AM Very nice.
What have you done for the audio in the xB? Just the new head unit? I love the display, does it give you more power, better sound etc?
Thinking of adding a amp to mine. I like the sound but sometimes more power would be nice.
elwood58 08-28-2004, 04:06 PM The head unit is the only change at this point. This increased output power to 50 watts per channel from the 22 watts they say the stock HU has. The stock speakers are actually pretty good in the xB, unless you are wanting to blow eardrums or do the db competitions.
I have this same head unit in my Mini Cooper. I listen to talk radio, NPR, and use the NAV System. Everything Else these units do is icing on the cake. Mt wife drives the xB most of the time. Her favorite feature is the picture of our Grandson that is the background image on the display.
For the younger loud crowd, the head unit has pre-amp outputs to drive all of that ground pounding hardware. The Pioneer website has some interactive demos on the unit.

jimsxb 08-29-2004, 01:50 PM holy SH*T! 2k for athe stereo/Nav unit. jeez, i should serve espressoo for that price...
looks good tho
underESTIMATED 08-29-2004, 08:17 PM Nice quality products you choose.
However, I think after seeing what 17's look like...I personally don't care for it. After reading further in your post, I assumed your older and would prefer to keep some ride quality that would decrease with bigger rims.
I really like the headunit.
You also listen to talk radio, so you get a http://www.wildhorsessd.com/emoticons/100.gif of approval from me.
:D
james4513 08-29-2004, 09:09 PM Elwood88,
Small world. I, too, have a very nice Mini Cooper S. She, too, has been lonely and quite upset since I got the xB. The Mini is still the best to drive - by far - but I'm almost exclusively driving the xB. I wonder why that is?
Your box looks great - great wheels.
BLeeK 08-29-2004, 10:48 PM I must know, hows the magnaflow? sound, feeling anything you can tell me..
I hear GREAT things about Magnaflows, so close to buying one its not even funny, well I guess it's a little funny... :P
elwood58 08-30-2004, 12:00 AM 1. Head Unit can be had for around 1600-1700 if you want Pioneer Warranty, or around 1500 without Pioneer Warranty. I got them to throw in the microphone and remote options for free as well.
2. 17's would look better with a spring drop, Larger wheels or springs would surely affect ride quality. The wife is the main driver, and I do not want her scraping the driveway. I just did not want 15" steelies and hubcaps. I guess I am not too old yet.
3. Magnaflow sounds pretty good. You need to be ready for a fairly continuous growl, with a nice hum at freeway speeds. Throttle response seems somewhat improved by the Intake and Exhaust add-on. On the top I run 3000 rpm at 70 mph. I have an automatic and bought the Cat Back from Magnaflow. If you want a more finely tuned axle back solution, precision muffler (site sponsor) has developed one specifically for the dynamics of the automatic, or manual that is getting rave reviews.
danman2_2999 08-31-2004, 02:22 AM hey so i gotta question with the dvd player....can you play the dvd's when you're driving? i heard that the newer dvd players only allow you to play dvd's when in park...but how when manual transmissions dont even have park? oh and another question...about the whole legal issue about having screens and stuff...is it illegal only if a movie is displayed or is it anything besides navigation?
elwood58 08-31-2004, 04:39 AM The parking brake must be set to view movies. You may use the screen for imformational displays and navigations. This would incoude things like radio setting, performance instruments etc.
SweetDaddyDelicious 08-31-2004, 04:47 AM The parking brake must be set to view movies, unless you bypass the feature and ground the wire. On my alpine unit it got confusing and I have to toggle 2 switches back and forth untill both moniters come on. (audio install in a New Bug, not Scion, so no point in posting pics here)
unlmtdndeavor 09-03-2004, 08:05 AM PAC makes electronic bypasses for the screens. i kno they do for alpine's at least...its like 4 wires and then it will always bypass so you can watch whenever you want. its like 30 dollars

jdaniels 09-03-2004, 07:28 PM On Pioneer's/Clarion's/Kenwood's/Sony's and the likes you can ground the parking brake wire, or attach it to a grounded switch so you can play movies while in motion... if you ground the wire, all features will be available at all times. If you put it on a switch, you can turn it off for "legal purposes" I.E. demonstrating that movies can't play while you're driving when you get pulled over -- lol...
