Default 80% throttle

So I found out this morning while I was at work (lexus) and running the codes on my cars CEL, I stumbled into the little screen that shows you all your throttle settings, your ignition timing, injector pulse milliseconds all that good stuff. I kept panning down and came across a setting that said throttle percent and it was sitting at 20. So I floored it and it jumped up to 80% only. Im wondering here now, thinking aloud, but If I got ahold of the tool to reprogram my ecu (which I can apparently) if it would benefit me to get the throttle to open 20% more. Any opinions?

Toyotas come from the factory like that. Before TBW, it came in the form of excess slack in the throttle cable making it never fully tighten. So yea. I bet 20% extra would be nice.

I knew that full throttle wasn't 100%, but I didn't think it was as low as 80%

For example, certain jet engines top out at 97% throttle, but 80%!?

I work at a toy dealer as well. My master tech tells me its because f the tbw, the ecu sees the engine is under no load since your just revving it and not driving, so there is no reason to open the throttle all the way. The engine doesnt need that much air, opening it to 100% is like having an exhaust thats to big, same idea. The ecu determins air and fuel consumption and determins how far to open the throttle. Try it again while driving and see what it reads.
Dont knw if thats all true but it makes sense to me.

i'd go no more than 95% just to be on the safe side, i also seen what happens to the engine when you remove the rev limiter (valves go crunch) keep us posted, most cars get programed for better gas or reduce polution, i care for niether so bump that s*!t

Throttle by wire also known as drive by wire. It refers to the fact that the throttle is opened by an electric motor rather than a cable coming from the gas pedal.
