Properly wired blue LEDs will do the trick. I recommened the hyper LEDs made by a company called Varad.

how weird, I was just talking to Ad-roc about this 20 minutes ago... I want indigo blue to go interior.. but waiting for other stuff first.. I'd be happy to help, I used to solder LEDs in phones (still have a red LED nokia  ) but I imagine these parts in the cars couldn't be much more difficult for sizing...

I agree man. I hate the orange displays. That is the worst color on earth. I'd prefer a white or bluish/white. Sorry I don't have any answers, just complaints.

If you also want to accent the blue leds with some floor lighting..make sure you get a set of Randode Racing Cathode Light Kits..they are cool and very reasonably priced.

If anyone does the LED swap, please post..I want to do this as well.

what kind of resistor did you use for the LEDs m@ ? I used 480 ohms on my cup holders but tried it on the compartment and it wouldn't even light up...not sure if the door lights uses lower voltage then I have to use lower ohms..

I believe 330 ohm resistors are used for the climate control illumination, but the rest (ie: storage compartment) came pre-wired with resistors for 12v applications.

one more question, what kind of LED did you use ? I used 3.2v 20mA 5mm blue LED

Eric,

Can't remember exactly, but that sounds about right. I think the ultimate would be to use Varad Hyper LEDs though. They are *SO* bright! I don't think it gets any better than that. They're pre-wired with resistors too.

Here's a link to a set of blue ones.

theres a japanese OPTIONAL kit
that has a switch LIKE the cup holder lighting accent..
except its a little LED thing that changes all sorts of colors..
u replace the little bulbs INSIDE the cluster with it.. theres
like a handfull.. throughout your center console/tachometer area.
thats why its WHITE faced and like amber this and that..
the lighting kit will let u push a button and change your
WHOLE dash kit,.. but its original toyota product.
not some cheap TAIWAIN indiglow kit.. =)

i got the kit in stock.. let me know.. U might have to do a lil CUSTOM
wiring because i believe th e wiring is a lil different from JAPAN to US...

So I'm not confused... are you talking about a kit that is different from the speedometer color-changing kit?

m@, how did u do that? did you have to change the center console's cover? how about that LED light in da center console's hole...how did you get it in there? and how do you control it (on/off botton)?
you makin kits? in green?

DjFrOsT,
What you are seeing is a white center console, that's absorbing blue light. There are two reason why I have white.

(a) Since my xB is white, I wanted more of the interior to match.
(b) With a white center console, it can absorb the blue light from the LED rearview mirror much easier.

The light in the center console storage compartment is a 3-way laser LED that you can pick up at Fry's Electronics. They're actually made for computers, but why not put them in an xB right? A hole is drilled into the back of the compartment to run/conceal wires and the LED housing is mounted in the very back. The LEDs are tapped into the under-dash lighting for power and everything can be turned on by one switch.

BTW... I'll take some new pics tonight, because it looks 100 times better now! Oh... and no, I don't make kits.

Peace,
m@

the man asked about replacing his ORANGE/AMBER dash lighting
to a different color..(instrument cluster etc)..
the kit i'm referring to WORKS like the cup holder light..
but u plug it in replacing the stock amber lights
so u can switch it to different colors..
im still debating on the pricing of the kit. give me a few days..

he never asked for "how to put neons in ur car" lol.. thats what i was trying to help on..

a kit actually made by toyota to change the amber color out. its crazy..

i'll throw up a picture and all that junk soon.

Hi Batute
Which side of the LED legs are you adding the resistor on? You might just have it on the wrong side of the LED. The reason that I have asked, is that if you have the resistor on the other side of the leads this will cause the LED not to light up. The longer lead on the LED is the (+12v) positive and the shorter lead is the ground (-). Good luck on you project by the way the lighting really looks very nice! I hope this will solve you problem on the LEDs!

Hey manong john errrr scionjohn :P j/k...I actually called radio shack to find out the the polarity before I even started on my project. The one for the cup holders worked but not for the compartment not sure why, anyway thanks for helping...I'm gonna try to put some more LEDs when Ihave time hehe

Merry x'mas !! deep fried turkey yummmmmmm !

ok, I figure out why it wouldn't work  resistor was bad, maybe it got too hot when I was soldering it. Now I can work on the center console on my xA....

be carefull doing this to your xA guys, don't blame me if something breaks :P

4 - 1206 sized leds

the links on the diy give you sites that are fairly pricy, fyi.. you shouldn't spend more than $.70 each

what color did you need? i have a few.
