going to be running these on Konig Tuner 2 17x7.5's, lowered on TRD shocks and eibach pro kits as spring-summer wheel n tire combo.

I'm looking for high performance value without breaking the bank. I'm willing to put up with a little road noise, but i want maximum grip, ride quality and handling, and they have to do okay in a little rain too.

I know you didn't mention em, but any toyo tire. Toyo proxes 4 are a great all season, but if you're looking for a summer tire, toyo proxes T1R or T1S. I recommend the T1R though, those are what i'd be on if I could use a summer tire.

that is, if you have actually DRIVEN them before, and aren't just basing your opinion on 2nd hand info.

I heard that Falken Ziex ZE 512s are a great tire as far as treadwear. But you gotta be careful because I've also heard that they fit pretty snug...almost a stretch, but you should be okay with 17x7.5" rim. I just bought my rims and tires and I went with Toyo Proxes 4....an all around good all-season tire.

 

I know 3 ppl that have used the Falken, myself included. The 512s are good for regular to moderate driving, but after 10K miles, the tires are not so good anymore. The only other tire I can compare it to in that category is the Kumho ASX and compared to those, the Falken has more roud noise and have a stiffer sidewall.

 

In the past I’ve purchased: 1 set of Proxes 4, 5 sets of Falken Ziex 512, and 1 set of Nitto Neo Gens.

Ziex 512: good for max tread wear, but not a good performance tire. Lot of road noise.

Neo Gen: best performance tire of the 3, but less tread wear. Low road noise. They are also non-directional (but they have to be mounted on an inside-outside orientation), so you can rotate tires from passenger-side to driver-side and vice versa. The Ziex (and maybe the Proxes, but I forgot) have to stay on one side of the car.

Proxes 4 is a compromise between the Ziex and Neo Gen. Low road noise.

If performance is most important (but not tread wear) get Yokohama Parada Spec 2 or ES100. They are around $115 per tire for 17’s. I used to autocross and canyon run on those with great results.

I usually buy the Falken Ziex 512 because they are the most inexpensive and last the longest. I go through tires quick (staggered wheels + low offsets + negative camber = low tire life), so I go with the long lasting stuff. My driving habits are no longer aggressive enough (I’m old now lol) to justify performance tires.

 

think i'm gonna spring for the BFG's.

thanks for the input, but i'm not gonna cheap out on some kumho or even falken. and the proxes don't have the wet traction i need. BFG's for this TC! 225s too.

 

cheap? 100 per tire is cheap? btw if bfgs cost more than a $100 than those are EXTREMELY overpriced.

this is the best tire from the g-force line and its a same quality tire just like the falken fk452!

btw falken has better road comfort, better tire wear, less noise but same dry and wet traction. maybe cost less... choose one.

fyi, i've run falkens before and know PLENTY of people who have as well. For the price, yeah, they are nice tires. i'm just looking for the next level of performance. thats all. not knocking falkens. and btw, most falken tires i've bought haven't costed anywhere near 100 bills/tire. closer to $80.

 

the fk452 is the next level of performance... its top of the line... oru want to buy some race track tires??

The OP had his mind made up before he asked the question. Why else would there be two ~$80 options, and a $120 option?

The fk452 will perform comparably to the BFG for less money-- but it's not my money, so I don't care.

yes, i've run falken before so i know how they perform. and according to their own website and all the other literature i've seen, the FK452's are a "luxury" tire. I want a "performance" tire.

I wanted to take a step up to the BFGs, but if they weren't going to fit into my budget, then i would go with a cheaper tire (falken, neo gen, etc...) don't even know why i feel compelled to explain myself here, but..... plus, based on all the reviews i've read, the BFG's are a flat out better tire, so that had me leaning that way in the first place, but i was not totally sold on them. thankfully, i was able to work out a good deal with discount tire, so i can afford the BFGs. I figure, if i'm going to spend all that money, i might as well spend a bit extra for higher grade tires.

If you'll notice, the title of the thread was not "TELL ME what tire to get"...it was "HELP ME DECIDE".

i'm sorry if you have falkens and therefore think they are the best tire in the world and that everyone should have them. and sorry if i offend you by not getting them. i've run falken before, i know what i'd be getting. want to try something new. if the BFG's aren't worth the money, then rest assured i'll try your FK452's.
