Default cruise control relocation question...

first off, has anyone done this?

i'm going to be getting a different steering wheel installed in the near future (just waiting on my hub adapter to arrive) and would really like to keep my cruise control if possible.

Without doing it firsthand... You'd just have to extend the wires to the new location, likely by cutting the connector out of the steering wheel (or a junk one) as you won't be needing that... Then find the wire(s) (in the manual) that goes into the steering column for the cruise and connect it back to the cruise switch, which you can relocate anywhere. (should actually be 1 wire for the signal, and a ground) Or, relocate the wire and make a new cruise switch instead of having that stalk hanging down somewhere. It's just a few different value resistors switched to ground on the same wire. If you find a cruise switch from another car you like, use it and swap out the resistors to match the Scion's. I had a piece of perforated "generic" circuit board you get at Radio Shack wired up with some switches and resistors in my Fiero for testing purposes when I did an engine upgrade, and it worked fine... (just checked eBay but couldn't find any decent ones that aren't steering wheel mounted... You could always use a few generic push-buttons in the factory "option" switches next to the mirror control... Keep people guessing as to what they are. )

that's going to be my next issue... where can i relocate the new switch panel? i've already used all the blanks in the switch panel along with the 3 built into the fuse box cover.

Damn son! LOL I was going to suggest the ones in the fuse box cover... If the aftermarket wheel keeps the clockspring ( I think it would , I can't see any reason to remove it, and it would have to be there for the horn to work ) you could re-mount the same cruise stalk either on the wheel, or around it near the hub... Or maybe even some buttons against the back of the wheel where they wouldn't be seen.. You'd be connecting them to the cruise wire coming out of the clockspring, so it would turn with the wheel... Not sure where else to put them, without sitting in my car and thinking about it... But anywhere you think they'd be easy to reach / use, I'm sure we can figure out a solution to mount them there. --> what wheel are you planning on using?

Hmm... If you're sticking with the quick release, how about a thin aluminum ring that would fit under the 6 bolts that you see and would project a small bracket out to the right which the stock (or another type of) cruise arm would attach to... (kind of "Oo" shaped, if you were to connect the two "o"s..) You'd have a "thingy" sticking off to the side of the hub when the wheel is off, but maybe it could be hinged to fold back out of the way?

LOL Welp.. I've got a stack of aluminum and a machine.. Just need a drawing / size and I can cut something for ya. $10 for time / materials? I'm still learning how to use this thing better (I made a SWEET 3/8" thick aluminum shift gate last weekend), so I consider it practice. That and a flat thin piece only takes a couple minutes to cut. If you can measure the diameter of the hub that sticks out when you get it, and the diameter of the bolt circle (I'm assuming those bolts come out easy?) I could whip something out. I'll have to take a look at my cruise switch, it'll probably look best to mount the switch behind the aluminum "arm", that way you'll see a nice aluminum bracket with the lever sticking out. I'll post up a pic of the shift gate in a minute. I think it's the one of the coolest parts I've made with the machine so far...

It's 3/8" thick aluminum with stainless screws... Sweeeeet... Made for a Diablo replica. Actually, the aluminum piece I'm thinking of for the cruise would actually be about the shape of that wood piece in the picture...

Quick draft... Found out the Momo wheel adapter is a 2.75" 6-bolt circle.. That leaves the diameter of the quick release post, and how far to the right to stick it out...

yeah man no problem. see I used that whole SEARCH feature that everybody complains people don't use. And this is the only thread I found bout the problem. And seeing as how I need help I figured a forum would be great to come to to find answers. Isnt' like great?

Now is there anybody that knows anything bout this that wants to help?
