Default HOW LONG TILL SUN ROOF LEAKS ?

I wonder how long it will take for all the gaskets become dry rotted and start to leak , after all the whole roof is glass and needs to be sealed with rubber. I like my tc but wonder about the long haul.

Well I would say that would take a LOOONG time BUT you may want to use a uv protectant cleaner conditioner on the gaskets.

Take care of em and keep them clean and you should be good. The seals on my 96 saturns first sunroof were 8 years and 160,000 miles old and didnt leak. I had the roof open one day and a damned bird hit the top edge of the glass while I was running about 50 and broke the mechanism (but amazingly not the glass) so I had the whole unit replaced. Granted, there is more seal to go bad on these, but you should be fine. I actually just wiped the ones off on the saturn and applied a very light coat of meguires every time I cleaned the car and they stayed nice n soft. Worse comes to worse after tons of miles, you can replace the rubber gaskets.

Treat them, and they'll last a long, long time. My weapon of choice,

Silicone spray with teflon.

to be fair thought products with "teflon" in them are just marketing buzz. Teflon needs to be applied in a certain way to "stick" to things.

But yes, protect the seals. I use 303 Aerospace protectant.

So are you contradicting empirical evidence with scientific theory? ;)

All I know is the silicone spray with teflon doesn't get gunky like the regular silicone spray, and it leaves the seals feeling smoother, longer.

Trust me, I had to condition the seals on my del Sol 3 times a year to prevent it from turning into a del Soak.

Yours will start leaking on May 5th, 2010. Sorry to be the one to break it to ya

I've had cars that started to leak within 3 years, 40K miles. I had a Z28 w/t-tops (notorious leakers) that went 125K miles with nary a drop thru the roof. There's really no way to tell!

No I do not have the spec package. It was a joke. They call it a "panorama moonroof". He called his a "sunroof". Funny. Get it?

sunroofs are metal panels that slide back to let light in. Moonroofs are glass panels that slide back to let light in, be it sunlight or moonlight. But they prefer to let in moonlight due to their namesake. Sunlight is just a bully and barges its way in uninvited. Damn you sunlight!!
