Default I need your help.

I walked into a business Friday afternoon, handed him my resume, filled out an application, got an interview on the spot, was asked if I could work Sunday if needed. I said yes. He said he'd call me Saturday and let me know.

He calls me Saturday about 10:05 and says he'd like to offer me the position. Absolutely fantastic.

Except for one little thing.

We only have one car.

The problem with that is not getting a second car.. the problem is we need to sell our xA in order to get two older cars because the point of me getting a job is so we can better support ourselves on top of crap military pay and to pay off the debt that we have.. which we can't do if we keep the xA and also add another car to that.

So my questions are:

1. What is the best way to sell our xA? We'd like to do private party and sell it for anywhere between 11-13,000. If we have to, we will go to the dealer but that would leave us still owing too much on the xA and I don't want to pay for a car that we don't have.. not to mention that we're trying to get two cars and we'd be paying for 4 cars (we are still paying for the 97 Civic we had that was abused by previous owners {running it without oil, grrr} and then got in an accident with).
2. What are two cars we could get that would add up to about 12,000 total between the two (meaning one car could be 4,000 and the other 8,000 or both 6,000 or whatever)? And we are talking cars, not trucks or vans.

I think that's about it... and please do not move this. This is not a classified ad as I have not advertised my xA, given a sale price or any information on it. And please don't move it to the xA forum because I would like to keep this local in case of any interest or anybody who knows anybody locally. Thanks.

You should be able to find 2 reliable cars for 6k each, craigslist is one place to look. Just make sure you take them to a mechanic to go over.

Sucks you have to get rid of the xa

I have to agree with Doug on this. Craigslist is a great place to find deals. I also am sad to see an owner sell, but we must do what me must do and I'm a firm believer in debt free.

It's too bad that the job wasn't on a bus route. I know riding a bus to work sounds like a sucky thing, but the cash savings of having one car payment over two is tremendous (gas/insurance/maintenence).

Good luck with it

You'd have to ask him that, not me. I wouldn't be the one driving it.

Either way, a moped or scooter wouldn't work too well trying to get from Oak Harbor to Bremerton or Burlington. It's needed for more than just him going to work.
