Default 2ish Questions

Unrelated to one another:

1) Exactly what part is the EVAP? Any pictures or a detailed description would be great!

2) I have an annoying rattle in my drivers door everytime the bass hits (component speakers - polk db6500) ever since my airbag recall like i'm sure many of you do. Everything is tight in there, I double checked it myself. Anyway to shutup the rattle? Any advice as to where I should dynamat?

2.5) My 'Oh ____' bar, as I call it - the 'emergency' bar that the driver/passenger can hold on to rattles like crazy. Any fix for that one?

Thanks. Pardon my randomness!!!

I don't know about the EVAP, but I know a bit about rattles. Anyone who knows me and my cars, knows that I am a rattle natzi. I can hear just about any rattle - and they drive me insane.

If you have checked in your door already, and you think that everything is tight, then you are prolly overlooking something. There are a lot of things in a door that can rattle. The worst thing about it is that you might be overlooking something that you simply cannot fix, like a motor. Something in a motor could be the source... but without having to the opportunity to look at the door myself, I will take your word that everything is good.

A couple of suggestions - tape up (wrap) wires. Get a rubberizing spray and spray over bolts. Also spray the inside of the door. The dynamat should (I think) be placed in the center and the outsides of the largest metal sections. But dynamat isn't so good about stopping rattles (unless it's metal on metal), but rather keeping the sound in or deadening the tinny sound. It does however, help with the prevention of future rattles.

For the 'oh poop' bar, I don't know if you can take it apart and ruberize the innards or even take it off, but I think either one of those options would be the best. As for a quick fix... you got me.

Thats basically how I feel with the 'oh sh*t' bar. I haven't been able to get inside there because there are no visible bolts. I thought I could get behind it b/c it looks like you can gain access, but it is just the metal spring behind there. So that drives me crazy.

I'll have to dynamat a bit and tape up wires as you said. I don't see many other options. Although if I had to take a guess, it sounds like its coming from the part of the door closer to the front. I'll just have to investigate closely once again.

Anyone with info about the evap?

If you can, you might want to think about spraying that spring in the 'oh ____' bar... becareful, you don't want to get that stuff on your intereior. But that spring itself might just be the rattle. It is a spring after all, and made to move.

Why do you want to know what the EVAP is? You should google it and get a description. I have been unable to find a picture, but its your evaporative system. Here is the best answer (without too much digging) I could find:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...=1006052430972

And one more thing about rattles. Don't put too much faith in where you "think" the rattle is. A rattle is much like a high pitch noise or an echo and can fool you in where you think it is. For example, you said that you think the rattle is coming from the front of the door when all likelyhood it's coming from somewhere by the handle or the window seals. What you might be hearing is an echo.

Another reason why rattles ____ me off.

Thanks for the tips on the rattling.

I am looking to know exactly what the EVAP is because I am getting a CEL which I think is coming from my intake. I read the code and it is telling me that there is a "very small leak" associated with the evap. So to check it, I just needed to know what exactly the evap is to check the hoses. I'll give it a look though. Thanks!
