Hey all, I recently had a huge stash of my DVDs stolen, so I bought a DVD burner, so I can copy the ones I have, and will get to replace the ones I don't have anymore. But I can't copy because they are copy-protected. Anyone know of any free programs I can get for this? Appreciate the help.

If you're using a Mac, I can help, otherwise, sorry...
Disclaimer: Neither BurstAneurysm, nor ScionLife condones illegal copying of DVDs.
Mactheripper will crack the encryption
Roxio Popcorn will take a dual layer disc and compress to fit on a standard 4.7GB DVD-R
MTR is free, Popcorn is not, but can be downloaded from certain *ahem* places...

I dont think its illegal if he is just copying to for personal use but if he was selling them then that would be a no no..... but yeah I need to get a program to do the same again too since I whiped my hard drive clean and started over.....

Yeah, I'm a PC guy. I guess I just like viruses and custom PC's. :silly: Oh, and making copies of my dvd's.

It's still illegal... you're just not likely to get caught.

I would never copy DVDs... :lalala:

you can call it "backing up" you dvd files :silly:
Nero is a great program to do this stuff, ive used others but nero seems to be the best to burn anything

Yeah, I have Nero. It's cool and all, but it still won't let you copy the copyright protected DVD's, and that's what I'm trying to accomplish here. 'Cuz who knows when a hard drive could go out, and having it copied onto discs is a lot more concrete than having them on a hard drive anyway. Thanks for the info though.

my biggest problem is I only have one DVD drive, so I have to rip to hard drive THEN burn to disc, and I can't find a free program to burn from HD to disc. Does DVD shrink do this? I appreciate your help.

i use dvd fab to rip the dvd onto the HD, then nero to burn onto a disc, i also only have one dvd drive
i think dvd shrink just shrinks the dvd so that it can fit onto a writable 4.7gb disc, not 100% sure though

are you using the expert mode?

I'm honestly not sure. I know that when I go to Nero SmartStart, and go to Copy DVD, I can't select the folder where the DVD rip is located, it will only let me select between my 2 Disc Drives, which are one CD-ROM and one DVD Burner.

dont use the Copy DVD.
Do you see the bottom right where there are three buttons?, one with a fire, one with the two dudes, and one with a white green arrow thing.
Click on the two dudes and they should be in suits.
Then go to Photo and Video.
On the bottom left there should be a scroll.
Scroll around and look for Burn DVD Video Files.
Then you are able to search for the files you ripped and burn.
hope this helps

I see the white/green arrow thing, and the fire, but there's an extra circle that has nothing in it on mine. It's the software that came with the burner. Do I not have the right program?

Nothing's wrong with it man... I'm just giving you a hard time. We have a computer packed with hard drives that does nothing but "backup" DVDs. Copy Away!
