Default Rear Bumper Applique Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the rear bumper applique that the dealer installs? Its not just your ordinary vinyl sticker. i would use a razor blade but i don't want to scratch my bumper. Any help would be great!

it does just stick on to the bumper like a sticker. it can be peeled off. i would let the car sit in the sun for about 4 hours and then wet it and try to peel it off. don't rip it off because it could possibly take the paint off. just take your time.

Perhaps go back to the dealer and tell'em to take it off...I am sure they have some sticker remover they use there.

Isn't is like a hairdryer and soapy water does that sort thing or somthing :?:

Wonder if its been on long enough to of faded the paint?

Hairdryer and a nice slow peel. then get the adhesive off with "Goof Off" you can get it at Home Depot, Lowes, Fred Meyer, Target, etc. It will take your wax off though, so re-wax your bumper when your done.

Hello Hawaiiguy,

IF you are going with the bB Chrome Bumper Guard,

Upon prior inspection. I noticed how tightly
the applique was bonded on and how wafer thin it was,
I took advantage of that.

Here's what I did:

I clean my Rear upper bumper real good. And
applied the Chrome Bumper Guard directly over the applique.

I do Recommend that you put a little water underneath to position
the Guard in place first. *Cauton: you must be careful as not to press
too firmly at first. That adhesive is so strong you can bend a crease in the
guard if you have it mispositon and are trying to pull away again. Take your
time. Also what I did was use a wax pencil put a center mark on the bumper
and the top of the guard to line it up. Center before you press it down.

After it is in place, there will be about 2-1/2 inches of applique extending from each side.

You have two Options:
1. Leave it be.
My Box is used as a Service Vehicle. Most people that are not Box owners don't even know.

2. Now if it is a Show Vehicle:
Then go to Home Depot and get a bottle of Goo Gone. It says right on the bottle it used to lift and remove adhesive and stickers.
I would then put a little on the edges. Let the Sun warm up, use a heat gun or blow dryer and lift the remaining 2-1/2" inches up
and away from the guard. Carefully use a razor blade and trim it. Repeat on the other end.
No one can ever see the difference.

Also the Goo Gone was what I use to Debadge/Shave the emblems on the back. I put a little over and above the emblems
and let it soak down. I used fishing line and cafefully worked it slowly behind. Then use a little of that cleaner to get rid of the residue.
Clean as a Whistle

goo gone is good and easy to get, but the is another product called Rapid Remover that works awesome. first carefully peel off as much of the sticker as possible, then spray on the Rapid Remover and let it soak. The rest comes off fairly easy. No paint damage. but you def hav to wax afterwards

WD40 works just as good as goo gone.
I like the idea of mounting the chrome bB one over top of the old one. The old one was just a bad idea from the start. How much can it protect with freaking holes in it??? LMAO

Hi BoxOffice,

Click on bB2NER right above you. He has one in his Gallery. The shot of
his rear section. I Installed mine right over the applique with no problems
at all. I am still doing mods on my TCM.

I will Post up next year after I get another camera and some important
mods.

ok, I did the removal of the applique in its entirety...just used a hair dryer on 'warm'not hot setting, and slowly waved it over the applique with one hand, while pulling with the other...

then used degreaser to easily remove...no problem of any sort as I had anticipated prior to the removal...

i then installed the chrome bB bumper guard! gosh this looks so much better!
