xB Aux Plug Wiring Questions
Hello everyone!
The goal here is to splice a cable into the aux plug so that I can have the aux plug, but also run a cable under the console to the cup holders to use with an iPOD. This way, I will be able to plug in my iPOD without having an ugly cable laying on the ground.
So, I have the following:
SCION AUX PORT: The port has a cable coming out of the back with four wires: Red, Grey, White, and Black.
AUDIO EXTENSION CABLE: This stereo cable is the M/M cable that normally connects from an iPOD (or other device) to the AUX port. Inside the cable are three wires: Red, Black, and a bare copper cable.
So, I'm stuck. I assumed that the same number of wires would be in the extension cable as in the port. Does anyone know how this should be wired? More specifically, does anyone know why there are four wires coming out of the aux jack? I assumed that for a stereo plug, there would be a right/left/ground, but I'm thrown by the forth.
Thanks for any help that you can provide!
Richard

I'm not following. I know that ur goal is to have a plug in station out of one of ur cup holders for ur iPod. But u want to splice into the base audio aux port? why not use the iPod connector form the factory but instead of runnin the cable in the factory location put the port inside the cupholder and stuff the cable in there. Another idea is to get an iPod docking station an splice that into the factory iPod hookup.
Now where are these 4 wire coming from? Is it the base aux port, the iPod port, or are u seeing them from the headunit itself? The base aux port should only have a right channel, left channel, and a ground wire. From ur discription ur saying its from the headunit, correct? If so the extra wire is for the iPod. With the iPod port when u plug it in u can use ur steeringwheel controls to change tracks. Now the factory iPod port should plug inline with the base aux port line as they both use the same input. So theroeticly u can take the factory iPod line, hide it , than take ur iPod cable and hide that and make a custom base for it out of the cupholder.

Thanks Tux.
Driver XA: If you pull the center console and look at the back of the OEM Aux Plug, you'll see that four wires go to it. I'm not looking at the back of the dash--just the back of the Aux port on the center console (by the emergency brake on the xb).
