Default bah..time for a new transmission

So, I have developed a lower rpm (under 3k rpm) ticking.
It was only under acceleration, so I figured it was a crack in the exhaust manifold or an exhaust leak.
I heard it primarilly in 2nd and 3rd gear, and it got progressively worse.

I dragged it to my favorite mechanic and he went through it with a fine tooth comb, figuring the same thing as me. Well, he found nothing. Decided to look around and drive it some more and we both came to the conclusion its coming from the transmission.

He assumes its probably a gear or something that has broken a cog or whatever off of it and its noticable under said RPM's.

I am going to drag it to a transmission shop he uses and have that guy check it out early next week.

Its a 5 speed, I havent slammed the shifter around, but I am the second owner...so If all else fails and the transmission has to be gone through...

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS!?
I hate the gearing in the xB. I drive at 70mph alot and 4k rpms dont cut it. Is the echo box the same tranny with different gearing? Is there aftermarket gears for the xB?
Otherwise, I was planning on selling it, but with the money that I might have to put into it, keep it around some more, and figure out what kind of options are available for transmission swaps (that are direct bolt ins).

Anyone know anything I don't?

I had the same prob as you and the dealer replaced my clutch under warranty and it went away. The car only had about 16000 miles on it when it was happening. It was something about a loose bearing that was causing the ticking. and it does get progressively worse and more annoying. Good luck.

As far as I know, there really aren't any other transmission options. Anybody have any ideas?

Yes you can run the 6spd. Wraith was running the tranny from a JDM levin which he then had kazz install an LSD in. Outof the box though, the levin 6spd will bolt right up to the motor. You do have to have someone modify the subframe a bit (in the since it needs to be cut about 2" in either direction.

...but yes, there is another alternative.
