System Emergency...HELP PLEASE...My car is in pieces!!!
I am going to be installing my new system today but i ran into a problem that i never really fully thought out.
1) Where is the best place to connect the amp remote wire? someone told me i could wire it to the antenna cable becuase it onl gets power when the cars on and that would save from running it to the front of the car. would that work? otherwise where do i run it to?
2)I am going to be running speaker wire to my amp. Will i be able to just run spoeaker wire to one of the rear speakers and splice off that speaker wire? There is a left and right speaker wiire input so will i have to run it to both back speakers? will it just be easiert to run it to the back of the head unit?

Boy are you jumbled up.
I have no idea what you said.
You have to run wires from the positive and negative terminals of the amp to the speaker they are supposed to power. Simple as that. I don't know what you were planning on splicing, but I highly suggest that you do no splicing.
Try the remote wire on the blue antenna wire on the HU harness; it will say something to the extent of Power Antenna, Radio, etc. Don't try to do anything with the actual antenna wire. That will ____ something up big-time.

I'm gonna assume your using the stock head unit and that you're not going to be using RCA cables but running speaker wire as your input on your amp. You can run the remote line to a fuse in your fusebox under the steering wheel, find the fuse for the cigarette lighter (what I ran mine off of) and put the wire into that fuse. The amp will turn on when you turn the key at least 1 click. For speaker inputs, you can run them off one of the rear speakers, just make sure your splices are clean. I would recommend using wire taps instead of cutting and soldering/taping, it will be easier and cleaner.
what do you mean wire taps? and also i dont mind running the speaker wire back up to the head unit becuase i realized running the wire is not hard at all. But if i run it up to the head unit where do i hook it up to? there are no empty spots or anything. Basicly where should i run the speaker wire to for the input on my amp and once i get it there how do i hook it up? and on my amp the speaker level inputs want right +- and Left +-
and also i like the idea to run the remote wire to the cig lighter fuse in the fuse box.....but how do i actually connect the wire to the fise boc at that fuse...i dont see where i am supposed to hook a wire up there can you try to explain how to do that please....I really appreciate your help because my car is in pieces in my drive way right now!!!
So you're using speaker level inputs on your amp? If I recall correctly, you could probably use quick disconnect connectors to connect wires to the stock speaker connectors, then run the wires to the amp.
As for the remote wire, I still say to try the wire I am talking about. Just connect it to see if it works, don't do any soldering before you know if it works or not.

aight so what do i need to do just stick the wire into the plug with the antenna wire and then put some solder on it so it stays and gets a good connection? can i use a wire tap and just splice off the antenna wire a couple inches back?
If you're splicing the ACTUAL antenna wire, it is not going to work. You have to use the one on the harness that plugs into the stereo. It shouldn't be hooked up to the harness, but rather just hanging out. Strip it, and see if it will turn on your amp or not when a CD is playing, not just the radio (the voltage may drop if the radio is not on, and thus it won't work)
I don't know of any antenna wire hanging off the back of the stock head unit. Listen, here's what you do:
Run a remote wire to the fuse box underneath the steering wheel area, pull out the fuse for the cigarette lighter. Strip the wire and wrap it around one of the ends of the fuse a couple times, then jam the fuse back in the slot and make sure the wire stays wrapped around the fuse. Connect that to the remote wire on your amp.
Next, remove the two rear door panels, there's plenty of how to's on how to remove them so just search.
There will be two wires on each speaker, obviously. Go to radio shack or some hardware store and get wire taps, a worker will know what to get if you tell them you want wire taps. Tap each wire and run them back to your amp and hook them up there.
Man if you were around Detroit I'd come help you out just to make sure you don't get too confused.

Buying an aftermarket HU first is the best option, and would allow people to skip these problems. My Kenwood had a wire specifically labeled Power Lead for aftermarket amplifiers.
