Default engine swap day dream

Has anyone ever thought of swapping the Celica GT-S motor and tranny into a tC? Granted it would not be as torquey, but the amount of aftermarket for the motor thanks to both the Celica and the Lotus Elise/Exige really make me wonder if anyone has done it??

i wouldnt swap for a smaller engine anyday, the six-speed w/ LSD is already in development for the 2.4 tC anyways.....we can hope for sooner than later though...i believe ZPI is making one still TBA

There is as much aftermarket support for the tC as there is the celica, IMO. Id stick with the 2.4 tC engine and look for the 6 speed with LSD when it comes out. BTW Ive raced a celica GTS with similiar mods to mine from a dig to 125 mph and it was dead even the whole way, so I know i wouldnt want that smaller motor in my heavier car.

true....power to weight ratio is a big difference, i would like a 6th gear just for gas mileage cuz 3K at 70 mph sucks butt on the highway.....lol, but remember race at the track not the streets because a u only need 5 gears for a 1/4 mile

More like 4 gears and the 4th gear you are in it for about a second.

I would like that. IMO, 2ZZ is a more proper sporty engine. But you know, ppl w/ tC's like to talk about torque. But then again the tC is so damn heavy it does need torque. From what I learned the 00 ECU was good w/ something like a PowerFC and allowed the motor to rev to 8500 which would allow the motor to stay on the high lift cam.
Oh, losing displacement on a motor swap is not always bad! ie: VQ35 to RB25/26 or KA24DE to SR20DET.

K24 out of an Acura TSX. 2.4L, 200hp, 6 speed. has more aftermarket support than the 2ZZ. there are swap kits available to put this engine (or the K20 RSX motor) in the Lotus Elise.

The weight difference between the gts and the tc is something over 500 lbs! That's a pretty big difference to try to justify giving up over 1/2 liter of displacement just because it's more "sporty". The tc is a heavy a$$ car. The swaps you mentioned earlier were between similar cars. The weight difference is not that huge, definitely not 500 lbs. And in my opinion, swapping from a VQ35 to an RB25DET is a pretty big step up. Same goes for the KA24 to SR20. But going through the trouble to swap from one mediocre Toyota engine to another mediocre Toyota engine is just not worth it. I know that's going to get me in trouble with the loyal toyota crowd, and I apologize in advance if I offend any of you. Just my opinion, and trust me, I'm definitely aware that some of you would disagree.

thats fine. I agree, the larger displacement is needed for a car of this weight. But I will stand by the fact that the 2ZZ is a better motor........ but probably wont be as a daily driver. If I were given the choice at the dealer, I would likely have picked the 2ZZ over the 2AZ.
The example I gave are rather poor since it's going from NA to FI.
Honestly, I think most ppl on here would agree w/ you.

Screw it, just swap in the 3.0 Straight Six from a Supra, convert it to Rear Wheel Drive and swap the TT for a Single Large Turbo and Intercooler.......then you have one badass tC.
