Default Is my clutch grabby!

Hi

I have a 06 manual xb and it seems that sometimes my clutch is grabby and everytime I shift gears I feel a little jerk
( not to be mistakend with a little a-h0%^)

but on the next day it will shift smoothly, then the next day back to a little grabby.

I dont know but it feels like the clutch is grabbing at the very end (towards you) of pedal travel, or is it a hydraulic fluid thing, I dont know??? any help would be greatly appreciated

How many miles?? reason being is that I've noticed since I first got the car the clutch has broken itself in and is now very smooth and not as jerky. U said when u shift its jerky, maybe its from letting the clutch out just a weebit too fast. If its the 1-2 shift jerk then they all do it including mine unless u let the clutch out really slow. But definitly take it in for warranty work, the only thing they won't replace is the clutch disk itself as its a wear and tear item but everything else is covered so go break their b@lls untill its fixed.

13k on the clock. I get a vibration from the clutch every once in a while too. probably have a warped flywheel or something

It does it inconsitantly, it will do it when I let it out slowly sometimes and it wont do it when I let it out faster at time. Most of the time it doesnt do it. Still concerned

Next time take notice of ur speed and rpms. U may have been going to slow/low rpms for the gear u were in. Does it to me if I'm just a tad too slow for the gear I'm in. Since its inconsistant I'd monitor ur shifting just to make sure it's something u don't realize ur doing and take it from there. Hopefully its just that and nothing more, if it stays the same I'd wouldn't be too concerned but if it happens more frequently then something serious is wrong. Just monitor if for awhile, let us know and take it from there. Best of Luck.

O wait I'm sorry u said ur TO bearing was bad? Then take it in to the dealer ASAP. If that's what's causing the clutch problem then they have to replace the clutch because that wasn't ur fault.

i get that on my 06 bop xb. It does that to me on 2nd and 3rd gear. I can skip the jerk on 3rd because i can rev up to 40 mph on 2nd gear then into 4th with no problems. So i won't feel that jerk in 3rd. But the 1 2 thing i get all the time, i hate it. but i gotta deal with it. When is is appropriate to shift into third gear? I shift into it after the RPM's are up to 3500 and i'm over 30 mph. And it still jerks. it jerks off alot.

1st and 2nd do it because of how low a gear they are, lower=more sensitive. I always shift at 3k in normal driving... just my preference, doesnt bog the engine and has enough power to get up to speed

Hey thanks for the responses everyone

It seems when Im shifting 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 I only have 2 options either slip the clutch or get that little jerk in the end. no in between

It seems to especially happen when I'm turning left or right

plus it seems that I have to hold the clutch in at the very very end of the pedal travel (back towards you) to get a smooth shift

oh and it has 4200 miles

anyone think this might be a motor or tranny mount issue. where are they located -I can only assume that the engine and tranny shifts and might be causing that jerk??

I seriously doubt your tranny and/or motor mounts are bad with under 5k on the clock. maybe at 50k.

I would see if you could drive someone elses xB to see if there is any difference

I didnt think about the motormounts or tranny mounts going bad through wear and tear though maybe placed wrong or possibly loose from factory. I just dont know with exception to the side motormount, as to where to look

Default Poor 2-3 shifts

After the first month, I've had periodic episodes of very harsh 2-3 shifts on my 15K mile 2005 xB. A B&M short shifter kit and brass cable end bushings under the hood helped a little, but the problem remained. A couple on months ago I was half way to work and the shifter locked in 2nd gear. I dropped it at the dealer, they removed the shifter cables from the transmission and could work the gears at the transmission; they told me that the shifter was broken, it was on back order and they'd get back to me. After a couple of days, I called and asked how a solid piece of steel could break; I told them to save all the parts for my inspection on any parts they replaced. and I suggested that they get someone to look at it that knew their ___ from a hole in the ground. Two more days later they called me back, told me that the 1-2 shift cable was bad and on order. Two more days later I picked my car with a new shift cable installed under warranty. Now it performs 1-2-3 shifts almost as good as a Honda. I've had a DC ceramic coated header and zip tied shift cables for 14K miles and it didn't help. Replacing a defective shift cable did. I'm wondering when I'll need the other cable replaced. BAD Scion! BAD Dealer!

i kind of have the same problem with my 06... it just started recently (im approaching 3k miles). it only occurs at launch though – the 1-2 shift is almost always jerky because imo its the hardest to finesse... ive always had more trouble going 1-2 than the launch.

but recently right after the clutch grabs on launch, it feels like the same feeling when the tires chirp a little bit, but i know its not the tires. is this what it feels like when the clutch is slipping?

hey blemmo

Was the jerky shifting a day to day thing or did it always happen. Mine is day to day and actually seems to happen more when the car is warmed up...

did you ever get that slight jerk even when going fast then putting it into neutral for a stop. I assumed it was me at first, that I couldnt drive a stick but Ive driven one for aver 10 yrs of all makes and models.

the dealer big surprise told me it was normal, and that he felt it but it was WITHIN SPEC. oh and I still get a vibration in the gas pedal and clutch

Default Jerky Shifting...

The shift quality seem to deteriorate as the temp went up under the hood; the first few shifts of the days were okay. Typically, the bad shifts exhibited themselves with a bad clashing of gears (usually 2 -3), and if I was lucky I only got a balky resistance moving into the target gear. At speed going into neutral, I often experienced high shifter resistance and then sort of a sudden release followed by inability to get the shifter into any gear. Trying to shift gears while cornering was often not possible. After I got the 1-2 shift cable replaced, most of these symptoms disappeared. I still have some occasional trouble getting into 5th (the other cable) and I have trouble making any shift while cornering. The dealer cut my tywraps when they installed the new cable, so the cables are really close to the header right now. Good Luck!
