I'm pretty sure that my header has burned about half way through my shifter cable, has anyone else had this problem, i'm sure i'm not the only one. Hard to fix? Expensive part? any info would be appreciated

GOT MINES REPLACED AT DEALER COSTED 700.00 . MY HEADER BURNED THRU IT AND SO I WELDED MY HEAT SHEILD TO MY HEADER AND WRAPPED THE CABLE WITH HEADER WRAP.

plenty of people just zip tied the cable to the firewall away from the header which i did. But then again i have the DC ceramic header.

Yes, others have had that problem.

As stated by 06ShadowBox.....many have used the zip tie method.

I've got the MMW that uses the stock heatshield, but thanks for the post. Reminds me that i wanted to take a look at mine to make sure it was good after I had the header on for a while.

Oh you mean like that? Yup.. Been there done that with the shifter cable.
Actually I am on my third cable.. the second one came apart right at the crimp point. Toyota payed me back for that one.

Yep that looks familiar but mines not that bad. Its my own fault for not zip tying it, i knew it would happen and even commented on the possibility of it after i put the header on. I pick up my new cable today for $217 which sucked, but after looking under the hood for a bit it almost looks like the hardest part will be getting the jack underneath my car. Is it pretty easy to do?

Yeah when you put the header on its bigger than the stock manifold and the heat shield doesn't re-attach so unless you tie the cable back the header bbqs it

Unless you have the MMW 4-2-1. It has the tabs to bolt the stock heat shield back on if you want to. No other header for the xA/xB that I know of comes with the tabs to bolt the shield back on

I burned mine. I'd seen posts about it but forgot when I put the header on. I never changed the cable but I do have it pulled back now.

Do you seriously have to pay Toyota that outrageous price?...I know there are generic sized ones etc that can be purchased.

I payed 185$ for mine at the dealership...for a generic one its very specific on its shape/ends/connectors etc. So I dont think there would be a true generic one you could use.. or if you did.. you would have to do more mod work to make it work than just buying the correct part and replacing it.

Think the toughest part was getting the box jacked up and taking off the heat shield behind the cat to undo the 2x 10mm bolts where it attaches the ring that holds the rubber boot for the cable to the body. Other than that it was pretty much easy. Just having to crawl halfway under the box to get to that spot.

i just ordered it from the parts dept at a dealership, took about a day to get it and a few hours to put it in. Having recently installed a trd short shifter it helped to know where both ends of the cable were and how they attached, after that i was simply a matter of getting that damn thing in the air which proved to be the longest part of the job, 2x4 ramps ftw!

This is deffinitely for the 5speed folk.

I haven't heard of any problems from auto peeps, but don't quote me on that.
