Mazde 3 i sport vs Scion tc?
tC probably. the Mazda3 "i" has a 2.0 engine. the "S" model has the same 2.3 from the Mazda6. i think the "i" model might be lighter since its the base model (especially no glass roof), but it is a sedan. hmmm......

Hey, Toyota and GM have a partnership. . . did you know that? Geo's, Chevy's, and Toyota's were built side by side in the SAME plant for quite some time. . . up until the recent Matrix/Vibe.
A Geo Prism is a Chevy Prism is a TOYOTA COROLLA. The Chevy Cavalier was sold in Japan as a Toyota. Ohhh lordy noooo, Toyota has been crippled!
The Mazda/Ford relationship is purely financial, and they do have some sharing for models, ie Mazda B series and Ford Ranger, Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape, Mazda 6 (a 100% Mazda platform which is used in a variety of Ford Motor Co products), and a few others. In terms of trucks and SUV's, you see genuine Ford's rebadged as Mazda's (where Mazda does a horrible job). And in many of the recent kick butt Ford cars. . . well. . . they are rebadged Mazda's.
not saying that everything that mazda does is crap, but my bro's gf bought a brand new v6 mazda 6 and that thing is crap. has reoccuring problems with stupid stuff like the throttle body seizing up and just literally dieing on the road much akin to the acronym for ford, found on road dead.
now why did chevy make toyota cars? because they knew that their cars sucked ***** and toyota kicks @$$. as for the toyota cavalier
"The third generation model was briefly sold in Japan by Toyota, under a company agreement with GM, badged as the Toyota Cavalier, with some notable differences. Besides the fact that it was right hand drive, the Toyota Cavalier also featured a leather-wrapped shift **** and steering wheel, wider front fenders, Japanese legal taillights (with amber turn signals, per Japanese regulations), power folding rear mirrors, side turn signal repeater lights on the front fenders, and carpeting on the inside of the trunk lid. Interior seats were often flecked with color. Rear seat was folding. The Toyota Cavalier was entirely produced by GM in the USA and delivered fair sales from 1995 to 2000."
learn something new everyday, but i'm shocked toyota would let gm put their badge on it, but toyota never built it themselves so they are not crippled.
as for the mazda ford strictly a financial is wrong. ford owns, i repeat OWNS a controlling interest in mazda therefore they decide which way mazda pee's. mazda's are ford and fords are mazdas with some differences. so they are victim to the same accounting cheapskates and lax quality control watchdogs, so yeah, mazda is garbage save for the few truly unique cars they have like the mx5 and rx8.

That's about as valid as finding a "SC blew up my engine" thread, and assuming all other tC's are exactly the same. You may not like them, but about every magazine and review of the 3 is positive, more so than our own car's.
my fiancee has a Mazda3 "S". the materials quality is poor. cheap plastic everywhere in the interior. the whole car feels flimsy and cheap. it does feel lighter/nibbler/peppier than the tC. her Mazda3 is built in Japan, but ALOT of parts are stamped "FoMoCo" (Ford Motor Company) in the same "Ford" logo cursive font.
