if you take off the power steering you will get into a wreck. It will free up your ability to get in an acccident too. They have some lightweight pulleys you can install, but I wouldn't get it b/c you have to mess with the belt.

  Maybe he just wants to drag race, so steering is not as much of a problem. Power steering is not a option or upgrade provided by Toyota. Without power steering you need Hercules arms to turn the wheel

Ive seen people take out the ac compressor and put on a shorter belt on other cars before. But come on, we only have a 1.5 pumping out "105" hp. Go turbo first and then worry about freeing up additional power.

i race mmy homies on the weekend but im trin the free horse power route right now. i only got a fujita intake and it lags uphills bad so maybe removeing these power ssuckers and dead weight off may help. i plan on getting a greddy supercharger in the future, if i did remove these would the boost increase due to no a/cand short belt?

Save your money and buy the 08...its got more power. Besides....these things werent designed for racing....if you wanted pwer/to race you shoulda bought something else.
Like Hotweelz said....its a 1.5L

08 has bigger motor (same as tC). And the TRD supercharger is going to be a factory option. More power and you can stay cool!

The closest thing that I have seen to a price was on the rules page of a contest listing the grand prize as a 2008 xB with a MSRP of $18,000. But that seams just too high

i saw it in person and it wasn't that much bigger. but the bigger engine should cost about $1k more, so it should be about $15.5k.

Yes it will free up power, it will cause a belt problem, that you will have to solve yourself with a few attempts at possible replacements, until one fits right.

all he needs to do is just find a belt that fits the crank, water pump (it still needs to flow in the correct direction) and the alt

and find a manual steering rack shouldn't be too hard to do...

the ac in our cars uses a "smart" electric clutch that gives you more power when under hard accel

At wide open throttle, the a/c compressor clutch is automatically disengaged by the ecm, so theres no loss there, and as long as the a/c is off, there is relatively no power loss just freewheeling the pulley. Removing the power steering is just asking for trouble with a fwd car, not to mention the small amount of HP you would free up would be almost un-noticable.

I TOOK OFF THE BELT AND INSTANTLLY NOTICED AN INCREASE IN POWER UP HILL THE CAR ALSO HAS BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE. WHY WOULD IT CAUSE TROUBLE IN A FWD?

You'll find out soon enough.

I have never done it, but everyone I know with a Honda/Acura has removed thier power steering completley with no ill effects. They actually swear by it as an easy power mod.

I hear if you disconnect the brakes you will go a heck of alot faster, just not really at the time you want.

Free HP with no consequence? I'll take some of that and go ahead and find me a hot chick that doesn't have any emotional problems while you are at it.

As stated before the ac uses an electromagnetic clutch and spins freely when not in use so maybe ur losing a pony or 2, nothing worth taking off unless ur really squeezing every last amount of speed out of ur car. The most u'll gain is the weight reduction of ditching the a/c compressor. Now for the powersteering DO NOT REMOVE IT. Ur steeringbox is designed to work with it and by ditching it ur asking for serious trouble. This isn't the 60s were u can easily swap in a manual steeringbox which is made to do what u would want to do. As far as the remark about the electric powersteering that won't work unless u can make a standalone computer and hook up alot of sensors as its a variable changing system. Drive a yaris and u'll understand, its the weirdest feeling cuz it goes from being really sloppy with alot of boost assist and as ur speed increases u feel the steering tightening up. Now y would you want to get rid of the powersteering anyway? Unless the car is a dedicated drag racer that will never see a curve again I strongly recommend u not doing it. If u want serioius power just save ur money and have ur bottom end built to handle a high boost turbo or just get another car.

Yeah, and dont remove your stock intake assembly, because it was designed to use the secondary carbon filter inside, and dont remove your stock header because the motor was designed to flow a certain way, and don't put on a light weight crank pulley because the stock pulley's rotating mass was also designed into the characteristics of the engines power curve, and don't put a catback exhaust, and dont use drop springs, coilovers or swaybars, or funny colored lights, or louder speakers, or body kits, and especially no carbon fiber.......think of the consequences :blah:

Let us know how it really turns out, scince you really did it. Thats the only true test.

wat up i since i removed it there has been no problems. there is a noticable gain in throttle response uphils and even on the free way. i would recomend it for anyone who doesnt mind turning with no ps.
