Guys/Gals, don't forget the dealer section of this website. It is a great resource for future Scion owners/enthusiasts.

Some of the most recent posts are 6 months old, time for some new information.

What dealer section?

It's the section of SL where you go to rate your original experience when purchasing your Scion. I wish that it had more of the follow-on ability to input info on parts, warantee issues, service at dealerships after the car was purchased.

BUMP. ok so after owning my XB for 2 months now I'm finally ok enough with talking about my car buying experience. I'm posting my review here because despite my best efforts to edit my review I couldn't get it below the 1000 character maximum in the dealer section.

Dealership: A+
"Special financing department": F-
Average overall experience: B-/C+

I'll try to be as objective as possible on my review and keep it as short as possible. In the end I'm happy that I have a brand new car, but I still have mixed feelings of how I ended up in my xB.

So after my old Civic was falling apart I was desperate for a new car. I got one of those "pre-approvals" in the mail and thought what the heck. I went online and filled in all the info and got a call from someone at "Pacific Credit". I guess they handle the special financing for Lake City Toyota. I have to admit my credit isn't in the best shape otherwise I wouldn't have gone through "special financing". The person on the phone seemed friendly enough. I told him exactly what I was looking for. "Doesn't matter if it's new or used, I want a manual transmission Scion xB. AND NOTHING ELSE." I scheduled an appointment to come in that same day. From the beginning I regretted my decision to come in. The sleazy sales tactics started the minute I walked in. Not only did they try to confuse me with all sorts of facts and figures, the first car they showed me was not even a Toyota. In the interest of keeping this short I won't get into every single detail. Long story short, they showed me 4 different cars that weren't even Toyota's let alone a type of Scion. After hour number 4 of all the BS I started to get angry and finally got fed up. I yelled at the guy "I TOLD YOU OVER THE PHONE I WANT TO GET A MANUAL TRANSMISSION SCION XB, WHY THE %$!#$!#$!#!%$!#@$ ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME WITH ALL THIS OTHER BULL$%#T!?!?!?!? CAN YOU FINANCE ME INTO AN XB OR NOT?" Trust me there were more than a few curse words thrown in the mix. I was ready to punch "Stumpy" right in his sleazy jaw. "Stumpy" was the name I gave the guy because he was missing one of his fingers. So finally they showed me a powder white xB. I was almost ready to work out a deal until I looked in the car. It was an automatic! "I TOLD YOU I WANTED A STICKSHIFT!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!? (insert extended lines of curse words and expletives here)" I was almost ready to go home and give up my xB hunt. When I finally calmed down Stumpy talked me into looking at the next car. What finally pulled up was an RS4 xB. And it was stick. I thought about just leaving, but I had been wanting an xB for so long. So I finally got a deal worked out (at almost midnight). When I returned the next day to finish signing my paperwork and get my owner's manual. I had a different experience. The dealership itself was friendly and very knowledgeable.
OK so if you're still reading this, I wish I never had to deal with "special financing" they were total jerks. I'm happy that I got into an xB (and it's an RS4). To finally end this review I'll say this. If you can avoid it. Stay away from "special financing" clean up your credit first and go straight through the dealership. The dealership, (at least Lake City Toyota) seemed knowledgeable. This is my first brand new car, but it felt just like I was at a nasty used car lot.

Toyota of Seattle May of 05 = bad, sales guy didn't even know much about Scions, Finance department was horrible kept wanting to push the extended sales contract on us.

Doxon Toyota May of 06 = Awesome! Chris was great and it was nice having one person do the sale and the financing. There was no pressure to buy anything we didn't want. The service department is also awesome!

I recently referred someone to them who is looking to buy the new Tundra Crew max. so far he is not too happy with the service because he can not get any information from them. Since the Crew max is so new I am not sure if this is Doxon’s fault or Toyota’s but it would be nice if Doxon could follow up with him and let him know they are still looking into it. So if they get back to him soon Doxon will stay on my good side.

Toyota of Puyallup Aug of 06= We worked with Steve so of course no complaints there. I was not too happy with the finance guys as they misspelled my name and address on everything even after I corrected it. The service department had some issues, like they could not total out properly how much it would cost to add on my parts they quoted me $250 and it ended up being $45 but I got a free rental car out of it for the day.

As for financing horror stories never use Capital One, they charge the dealer $500 to cash the blank check auto loans. I learned that the hard way. So the dealer will pass that along to you. I used them just to see what I qualified for and to know I was pre approved before I started looking for a car since I didn’t know what kind of car I would end up getting. I ended up getting financed through the dealer and even got a better rate!

BTW I have regestered on the dealer rating page for my tC!

Sept. 05 - truck was dying we were looking for new cars parents wanted me to look @ a focus....yeah...see how far that went! Anyways called out from my house from the closest to farthest (least to most inconvenient) to see what dealers had (like I said truck was stumbling on its last leg...). My requirements were stick, not blue , purple (black cherry), or the azure pearl. I will not say anything bad about the dealerships I did not buy from that did have what i was looking for, but I will say that I stopped at 2 before ending up @ Magic in Edmonds/ Lynwood. I was impressed that a guy (Andy) from the Toyota side was so enthusiastic about the cars that he came over and took care of me! When first say the car (love @ first sight btw) it had 3 miles on it, and as soon as I sat in it I knew it was mine. Paper work in the showroom was painless and quick, the lady in the "add-ons" area however seemed to not understand the meaning of the word NO! Needless to say thanks to her yaking we spent another 2hrs there, and did not leave until after 9pm w/ out even having a radio in my tC :( . Went back was warmly greeted by Andy again they put in my stereo, and I went on my way in what seemed like 10 min.

Dec. 06 -Time for the wife to catch the fever! My wife (Wicked_1 on the boards) wanted a new car, she test drove a B and and fell in love w/ it she wanted something similar to her Prism/Corolla and loved the feel of the B. Then she saw the RS4 color and I knew it was all over. We talked to Victor at the "Deck the Hall Ball" about it, and he said with our trades, it could be done no prob. Not long after we went in and went in to sign the papers for it (it was still on its way over), and unfortunately Victor was out, and there was a little confusion on the paperwork. It got sorted out, and the rest of the process was simple and painless! I would like to add also that Victor also help me suprise my wife w/ it by having it ready inside the service area w/ a big bow on it! We told her we had to go down and sign one more thing before it came in and suprised her! Thank You Victor!

As barc111 said, make your remarks in the dealer section, under features. Dealers who don't cruise the forums will look at the ratings page to see if anything is said about them after a sale, I know the saleman who I bought my car from made a comment about my rating I gave him shortly after I had posted it, but he never looks at any of the other forums.

I dealt with Burien Scion in 2004/2005 when buying my first tC and had great experience with them and used them for all my service and again, absoloutly no complaints they where amazing.

I used Scion of Mo in purchasing my 2007 tC and had a great buying experience they bent over backwards to help get me into my very own tC!

Magic Scion in Edmonds is not my favorite, hate they have no service department on sundays(i get every other sunday off, between 2 jobs.)

and the wait time on everything is 2.5+ hours.

I want my 3 free oil changes, which right next door to my job does them in under 10-15 minutes, but Magic says, drop your car off for 2.5+ hours(3 if i want my car vaccuumed) to get your oil changed. I can't "come back" when they are actually ready for my car.

I'm supposed to "drop it off" and sit there in the lobby for a few hours while they park my car around back so it looks like they're doing something.

I just wanted to update my review; the sales guy was sick and has since taken care of my coworker they are working on dealer trading a crew max for him from South Dakota of all places. He had an odd request apparently he wanted bench seats and they usually don’t do that on the higher end models. He could put in an order, but that would take a few months. All and all he is happy and waiting for his truck to arrive.

ok so what is a MAF sensor? I know that I am not going hate asking this question but who cares I really did not understand what that is

dugzilla
05-10-2007, 05:52 PM
Victor, it's the Mass Air Flow sensor that reads the amount of air coming into the engine and tells the ecu how much fuel to add for a proper mixture.

05-10-2007, 09:28 PM
I knew that I was going to hate myself for asking that question. LOL I guess I should have known that, but oh well to many things to remember. So is that like the o2 sensor?

dugzilla
05-10-2007, 10:25 PM
nope, the O2 sensor is located in the exhaust system.

ok I will stop now and just leave the servicing to the technicians. I will just stick to selling the cars and taking orders for now.

I am actually very mechanicaly uniclined when it comes to the new cars. Give me a classic and I can work on it all day.

The first Scion dealership I dealt with was a dealership my family had dealt with for about 30 years. It was very disturbing to have them eventually damage my xB, then just hide the damage rather than repairing it. Since the damage has allowed (and probably continues to allow) rust around the windshield, I no longer deal with that dealership. (See http://www.scionlife.com/dealers/titus-will_scion )

My second Scion came from a second dealership, for obvious reasons. So far they have been quite decent, but are not community involved since Scion is probably less than 1/100th of 1 percent of their business. (Selling just one of their high-end cars probably makes them as much as a year's worth of selling Scions.) I have not bothered to rate them - and they still have the pic of a person who hasn't even been there for three years posted here as their Scion champion... (Hi, Sheep!) See: http://www.scionlife.com/dealers/scion_of_tacoma )

I do miss the service waiting room at my first Scion dealer. :( Coffee, doughnuts, snacks, TV, high-speed internet access, books, magazines, etc.

Had to take the opportunity to share my wonderful Kitsap County Experience.

Heartland - The first visit, the sales rep didn't know what a tC was. Spent the majority of his time trying to get us to test drive a Corolla instead. When he asked what other vehicles we were considering (told him Mazda3 since I own a Mazda6), he makes the comment that "Mazda's are without question the worst car make in the US". Did he not just listen to the fact that I own a Mazda? Regardless of his opinion of Mazda...probably not the best approach to making a sale. Freakin' idiot.

So, tried to back door the sales dept by using the internet. The individual replies with the statement that he doesn't have time dedicate to my "browsing" and to Scions. He deals strictly with Toyotas (the link was via the Scion site).

Heartland Toyota epitomizes my opinion of Kitsap County.

So...ended up with a reply (from the same internet request as I spoke of previously) from Jack at Larson Toyota in Tacoma. Great guy, great salesman, a credit to Scion.

THEN....go to Heartland to get the first oil change on the tC. They tell me that since I didn't buy the car from them, they will not honor the free oil changes. It took me complaining via the Scion site to get them to do the service on the car.

Summary for Heartland Toyota/Scion: Caveat Emptor

Victor,

I appreciate your professionalism. I met you briefly when I came to pick up my owner's manual. Please understand that I know that the place that handled my transaction was separate from the actual dealership. Lake City has been nothing but helpful since I got my xB. If only I had done my homework BEFORE I got my car I would have gone straight to you and asked for your help. I honestly didn't know what I was getting into when I signed my "pre-approval". I want you to know that I have heard about your excellent reputation and I can see it with your participation in the Scion community. It's too bad I didn't know about it until after the fact. I had a sense that something went wrong behind the scenes when I got my car and I honestly felt bad and thought I might have had something to do with it. Also though, I didn't appreciate that "those people" did not listen to what I wanted in the beginning. I told them what I wanted, and all I wanted in return was to know if it could be done or not. I apologize if my transaction was a source of difficulty and problems. When I am ready to refinance I hope that you will be able to help me or at least get me pointed in the right direction. Again know that you and your dealership have a great reputation and I still plan to do my business there in the future.

Thank you so much Flip guy for your kind words. I am so sorry that once again you had to go through that, I forwarded this post to my General Manager and Owner, and to say the least the both of them were very upset and said to reasure you that Stumpy is no longer here and one of the many reasons is because of what exactly happened to you. Once again I am terribly sorry for that, unfortunatly I cannot protect those that I do not actualy deal with, and since it happened so late at night, I really feel badly. But at any rate it is over and you have a Wonderful RS.4.0 xB and I hope that you are really loving it. And when you are ready to refinance I would be happy to help you. And if you came in sooner I could give you some pointers on how to make things better for you when you do refinance.

As far as your kind words towards me, thank you, even though I do not really consider myself that great, I just like to be a part of the comunity and have fun at it. It is really rare that one kind find a job where almost any day you go in is different and a challenge, and most of all rewarding at the same time. For me it is just a pleasure to be a part of and serve the comunity.

Thank you once again and any help that I can give you in the future please let me know.

Victor
