Default Squeaking Metallicish sound coming from HVAC

There is this weird sound coming from what seems to be behind my HVAC. at first i thought that it was coming from the door that covers the head unit but its not. The sound is like a metallic squeaking sound, like something is loose, and it only happens when ever i go over bumps. I dont know if anyone else has been hearing this same thing.

I've been having this for a long time now. Still don't know how to fix it. I know alot of tC owners that have the same issue.

i think i might have the same problem. it gets really annoying. seems to happen when the rpm's climbs (not the entire rpm band, and not everytime) whenever the engine is really working. i think that creates the vibrations somewhere in there and causes that annoying rattling. at first i thought it was the radio door squeak that has also been a problem for many tc's. i tried that fix but the noise is still there..

I really did think it was coming from my radio door to. While it was open i drove over some of those bumps on the road (lol dont know the name of them, but the ones that are in-between the breaks of the lines on the road) and it made the noise. but wen i closed it and drove over the bumps it stopped. but the next day it started up again with the door closed. ill probably pull out the HVAC and look around for something loose

this is the radio door squeak... open it up and lube up the 3 metal tabs at the top with lithium grease and it'll go away for good

yeah if you look around SL, there are a few threads about how to fix it (I just fixed mine this weekend). I think on the "scion tc FAQ" or "scion tc cliff's notes" they have info about how to fix it (also check the tech articles - might be in there too)

i fixed mine by stuffing padding between the pack of the panels and taping it in there so it won't flex so much (and squeak)

here, check out this thread. It lists a bunch of the squeaks and rattles that people have discovered in their TCs and then links that show how to fix them:

FIXED

I have an aftermarket headunit and since i put it in I've been hearing this noise. Here is how u fix it.

1. Take out HVAC trim
2. Flip it upside down
3. Look at the part that the top of the stereo is pushing against
4. You should see 3 lines going from the back to the front. One all the way on the left. One all the way on the right and one in the middle. They are about 1/2 inch long.
5. Cover those lines with electrical tape.
6. Done
