Whats to know, grab a wire, if you don't get shocked, don't grab the other one, lol. Get a book on basic home wiring at Home Depot or Lowes, shut off power to room, start chainsaw and start cutting garage door, would be quicker than the sledgehammer, lol.

If your guy doesn't work out, my son is a general contractor on the Eastside. He mostly does finish/painting/trim kind of stuff, but he's done it all.

All I want to know is why people do this to their garages!?! I'm stumped becuase:

1) It causes the house to lose value.
2) It makes the house more difficult to sell.
3) Generally the work was done by some "handyman" and was done without permits, insurance, or proper installation checks.
4) More often then not they don't create "comfortable" living space anyway becuase the areas are generally drafty, cold, and damp.
5) It detracts from the curb appeal to have all those cars parked in the driveway rather than in the garage.

When Mo & I were looking at purchasing a home three years ago you would not believe how many of these 'garage-rooms' we saw. And the people expected one to pay for that extra room in the sale price. So instead of claiming it as the 3 bedroom it was according the county they would say it was a 4 or 5 bedroom.

In one house...half acre lot, 3 car garage...they had walled of all but one stall. What a shame to an otherwise beautiful house on the outside...until we saw that they had done the same thing with bedrooms (walling them down the middle to make 2 rooms where one once was).

Oh well...just perplexed that people will do this in the first place without permits and that people will buy homes in which additions/work like this is not noted with the county and could be, quite possibly, defective construction.

i dunno about others but i know the previous owner of my place has 3 kids and their grandma living with them. my place is only a 2 bdrm (not counting garage) so yeah it is kinda stupid to live that cramped.

i bought it anyway because i lost out on a bid for another place earlier but this one turned out to be a lot cheaper for the same space, big yard and better layout so for me it worked out well.

doesnt hurt that the price has gone up 100k since i bought it either!
