I'm debating on sill plates and exhaust tip. I was going to do taillight garnish, but it seems pretty expensive for what it is. I may pull them apart and paint/smoke them instead.

I guess by cheap I mean small things maybe even free that you can do and improve the style of places on your XB. For instance one I got from the tech section was taking off the faceplate around my stereo and ac controls and putting caps over the LEDs to make them a blue color. That kind of cheap :eyebrow:

Shave the badges
Cup holder LEDs DIY
Clear your headlights
Change the bulbs (headlights/foglights)
Taillight red-out or clear
Remove the wiper

There's a ton of cheap and free mods you can do.

Another good one is to spend a few good hours washing, clay bar-ing, waxing, detailing your whole car. Makes it out-shine all the other dirty boxes out there and doesn't cost much.

I made a new cherry-wood knob for the radio so I can grab it with my gloves on. It's deeper and square-er and fits over the stock knob. Then I made a matching piece that covers the right arm rest (I have an aftermarket arm rest) and enlarges it somewhat. The cherry was FREE 'cause I had leftovers after making a bed. I'm thinking of adding other cherry accents . . . .

the lighting behind the ac controls are not LEDs just so you know. Just a small incandescent bulb. Look at it...

Sorry.... I capped the incandescent bulbs... :relief:

cold cathode lights inside are a pretty cheap and easy DIY...

You could buy some Sylvania Silverstars for me for under $20 shipped :) will improve your night light and looks!

but yeah, the fogging the tail lights is pretty much free but will be a little work, im gonna do it once i can figure it out perfectly.

Mikochu (sp) grounding kit will make ur engine look cooler and if u got an auto in theory make it run better (idk, but it sounds cool) will run u like 20-30 at most!

OMG no one suggested taking off the caps and adding chome rings and some chome lugs! maybe 60 bucks, and can look sweet!

Cabin a/c filter.
I bought a huge sheet for $11 at Home Depot. Should be reusable for another 4-5 times.

For $18 i debadged and stuck on a Benz emblem.

$50 got my OHH Garsh Darn It handles to light up (LED strips/dremel) Led strips from Onzium.com

Is there anything special you need to do to debadge it? What is the process for it?

I would like to know where you got those grille inserts at.

I did all the stock gray inside (pillars,headliner,visors,ect..)in black.It only costs around 40$ and it came out really good.The paint is called Dupli- Color fabric and vinal dye.pull out the pillars ini the back and front.unscrew the seatbelts to get the others off.there are 4 pins on the top of the back headliner.pull those out.take off the visors and the handles above the windows and the rear view mirror. next pill the rubber peices out just a little so the head liner peice will come free.after ur head liner is free pull it out of the hatch.I used 7 cans of this paint with 2 to 3 coats of it. take ur time on the head liner and do a couple of coats and let it dry and repeat.Do this on a sunny hott non windy day.Let everything dry for a few hours and make sure all the angles are complete.Then reverse the process of taking it out to put it back in.Let me know if u need any more details.

Couple that with your old PC, laptop with a broken screen or whatever you chose - and you will have navigation, movies and music at your finger tips! a couple hunder dollar investment but the output is really well worth it. It's a great feeling to have 5,000+ songs at your fingertips! and navigation!

All the mods above are nice but the carputer/computer mod, in my opinion, is the mod that has brought me the best results. I am constantly going to new places along the east coast and the navigation has been a life saver! forget printed out maps, forget a $500 stand-alone garmin gps units - a computer in your car gives you so much more functionality with very little investment of $.

click the link in my signature to see my setup. im using a touch screen laptop which is on the "more expensive end" of the mod scale but you can do exactly what im doing much cheaper. also visit www.mp3car.com to see other peoples setups. go to the 'show off your projects' section.

with the scion it's a piece of cake with the "aux port" next to the e-brake. all you need to do is get a stero-to-stero cable ($5) and connect it from the sound card on the computer/laptop to the aux port. that's it! all ur navigation instructions, movies and music audio will now come through all the speakers in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tons of people on mp3car.com are using laptops with broken screens as their computers and outputting it to an 7" or 8" touch screen you get get from ebay for like $200.

I would like to see some pics of the Cherry wood mods. I am a wood butcher at heart and this has crossed my mind to put some custom wood in the xB!! No pics, and I tried to do ascii art of the knob, but that didn't come out very well ;^)

The pieces I did weren't too difficult:

The knob is just a cylinder slightly smaller diameter than the opening around the stock knob and slightly longer than the stock knob and with straight sides and a hole in one end that the stock knob fits into. I epoxied it on to make sure it wouldn't fall off.

The armrest extension is slightly wider and longer than the armrest top, an inch thick, and with rounded edges all around and a curve on the front that matches the armrest. I held it onto the armrest with screws from the underside.

After sanding to about 220 grit, I finished both pieces with Minwax gloss rubbing poly. They've made it through last summer and this winter still looking good, and if (when) the finish deteriorates it will be easy to replenish it with more rubbing poly . . . . .

When I think about mods, I think about what I can spend that will cost the least but give me the MOST output/satisfaction/etc.

I'm 6'2" and the best mod I did was to put about 8 washers under the front seat anchors with a correspondingly longer set of bolts. Makes a HUGE difference in comfort for you taller drivers.

Click on Features at the top and go to Tech. There are tons of DIY's including light changes and clearing headlights.

I cleared my headlights last night they look killer!

best thing NOT to do is buy the projector headlight and if you clear you current headlights dont paintthe "non-reflective" areas black.......it whacks the heck out of the light output....live and learn from mistakes, even costly ones....of course now I have a couple projector to use for the custom pod for my K7 Gixxer........

I got them from Advance Auto Parts for $10 and some change. One of the best / cheapest mods IMO.

Warning for you on this product. It looks nice but it did NOT fit my automatic which is a 05. I tried 2 of them and the circuit board inside does not fit around the shifter. I live in Orlando so I dealt directly with the source. It seams to fit manual OK. Also the door locks they sell with the led's are great but within 5 months all but 1 of them burnt out. They are wired incorrectly I think. The resistor is on the wrong side, so I have to get some leds from oznium and redo them.

I had no problems with the fitment on my manual tranny. snapped right into place.

Another cheap mod that has been covered is to get rid of your craptacular rubber bushings on your front sway bar and replace them with polyurathane ones. cost with bolts is about 20-25 bucks.

nice woodwork, pooder! i the arm rest looks so nice. it'd be cool to cut out a cupholer into it! ;]
