View Full Version : Best pads for OEM rotors
vtec93accord 04-14-2007, 10:48 PM Im looking for less brake dust, oem brakes seem to do me just fine getting around and havent had any problems. What pads would be best on the oem rotors, i was thinking EBC green stuff pads, heard they were pretty descent and havent heard anything negative about them. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
nauticalblue_tC 04-15-2007, 03:15 PM as far as i know, Hawk, Axxis, and EBC are all great pads
redwar1441 04-15-2007, 03:50 PM the ebc are good, ive used hawk on other vehicles and liked them as well but why stray from the stock pads? Im about as hard on brakes as you can get and i dont have any complaints with the stock pads. It would be nice to have a little more initial bite but that would sacrifice rotor life/dust/noise etc. The stock pads also deal with heat extremely well for a stck pad.
also check dezods new pads.
vtec93accord 04-15-2007, 07:10 PM Thanks guys, ill check price differences and decide from there.
tC9o9 04-16-2007, 02:14 AM i personally like carbotech, hawk and axxis.
i would run axxis ultimates on a street car.
CatalepsicFox 04-16-2007, 06:39 AM watching. I would like to see everyone's opinions about this also.
sciontc_mich 04-16-2007, 12:42 PM ive always liked porterfield's carbon/kevlar pads. can find them at www.porterfield-brakes.com Under the Porterfield brand, the r4-s street compound is the one for daily driving.
EDIT: And yes there isn't much brake dust with the R4-S compound.
bsmith11 04-16-2007, 12:44 PM watching this....i personally would like a pad with little or no brake dust.....
sciontc_mich 04-16-2007, 12:48 PM see my above post :) Not much brake dust with the R4-S compound. Very good bite and lasts a long time (wear), rotor friendly too.
malloynx 04-16-2007, 06:23 PM porterfield is the way to go.. there pads are awesome.
jwaggz82 04-16-2007, 06:40 PM I cant remember off the top of my head but when I changed my front pads last year I think I bought axxis ultimates. I think I bought them for $38/pair from some site that was just opening.
nodsetse 04-16-2007, 09:31 PM ...i was thinking EBC green stuff pads...
Good choice, and what I intend to use (based on past experience) when time comes for me to replace pads. The EBC green stuff are much more agressive than stock, they really grab and slow you down much quicker. The only downside (sort of), is that they're more difficult to use lightly than stock pads, like when you just need to slow down a bit, a slight touch will slow you down a whole lot.
vtec93accord 04-17-2007, 01:19 AM Well the decision is gonna be between EBC green stuff pads with are 85.00 bucks and Porterfield R4-S which i cant even find a price for. Do the porterfields wear faster than oem b/c im leaning more towards to Green stuff pads unless porterfield lasts longer and are just as good.
jwaggz82 04-17-2007, 04:06 PM why in the heck are you spending so much on pads? They better be godlike because normal pads shouldn't be over $65
nodsetse 04-17-2007, 07:33 PM ^ I'd gladly spend $20 more for EBC over "normal" pads.
OP - If you go with EBC, please let me know what you think of them on the tC.
jwaggz82 04-17-2007, 11:50 PM There are better pads then stock for less then $60
vtec93accord 04-18-2007, 01:29 AM Where can i find EBC or Porterfields for a descent price.
CatalepsicFox 04-18-2007, 02:23 AM I was thinking StopTech Brake Kit Stage 1, it comes with hawk pads and other goodies.
jwaggz82 04-18-2007, 01:58 PM ^but will you get better performance (or how much performance) for that $$ ....thats the question.
CatalepsicFox 04-18-2007, 03:24 PM ^^^ Around 280 from TRDSparks. Should be a big improvement since it comes with brake fluids and stainless steel brake lines.
I want my brakes to be extra sensative

I want my brakes to be extra sensitive. I hate it when you started to floor the brakes half way to get any noticeable difference.
jwaggz82 04-18-2007, 06:20 PM ^^ I wonder if slotted rotors will help any or if it will be just for looks ....? I know a slotted rotor will be good if you were changing the calipers but w/ stock calipers ....ahhh I dunno.
(I know you were talking about the stage1 kit but I am just commenting on the stage2 because I agree that the stage1 comes w/ the new lines and fluid). I thought the stage2 only came with that but checked sparks site and you were right.

And same for EBC. They offer the "Ultimax" line, tC front for $30 (http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-UD817), with rear for $35 (http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-UD835), and both are better than the stock pads, but it's their "Greenstuff" line that's "godlike", as you put it.
Where can i find EBC or Porterfields for a descent price. You might want to try their Ultimax, above, for a much cheaper price. As for the Greenstuff, I did locate a bit better price than what you previously stated, with the fronts for $78 (http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-DP21325) and the rear at $46 (http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-DP21456).
I wonder if slotted rotors will help any or if it will be just for looks ....?
It depends on how you use them. With hard use and/or moderate for an extended period, they can certainly make a difference by reducing fade. If you're only going to drive "normal" like most people on the road, then you don't really need them, but they sure won't hurt. They're definitely worth it when you need to replace your rotors anyway, if you can find slotted and/or dimpled rotors for a price not too much over stock replacements.
kikcaffine 04-19-2007, 04:43 AM I run Axis Ultimates. Im on the second set (54k miles) and love em! I have faded them to the point they wouldnt stop 1 time (went from 120-80 back up to 120 down to 80) and they werent having it the second time around. lol. For normal not running from people mode they are great! I can kill it in corners when i have to with out worrying if my car is going to keep going or not. The only gripe I have is they put out ALOT of brake dust. ALOT.
Spect2K3 04-19-2007, 03:43 PM Not only the brake dust, but they are also really abrasive on the rotors. What kind of rotors are you running? Any warping issues yet?
Thermos2003 04-26-2007, 10:01 PM I had a pair of EBC green stuffs on a previous car and was not impressed. They were about $70 and were louder, and nearly as dusty as stock. They always squeaked a little and I really didn't notice much of a stopping difference.
