I want to know why so many people are selling their Hot Lava's. If I had the chance to get a Hot Lava I would have done so without question. Same goes for the Series 2. If it comes in Yellow or Lime Green, Im serious I will buy a second box. So answer me this, why are all the Lava box for sale?

people buy the cars and get a limited edition color....its not abig deal. some people bought the car and just arent happy w/ the car in general not speakin of the hot lava stuff, just not happy w/ a scion. i know some people that got the car as a daily driver and its whatever..they arent all hyped bout it..im not too hyped bout my car either, i got it as a commuter car cause of the kick a$$ gas mileage. =)

also to add to the posters above, perhaps they need to sell their vehicle due to other issues one of which could involve money or maybe they are selling it so they could get a rs 2.0 :P :P

To me the orange paint job is a gimmick to make you pay more and basically get the same, just in another color.
I like white and silver Xb's another color I don't see as much.

Yeah, the people that are selling are the ones that crave attention and now that the Lavas have been out awhile they are itching for the looks that they used to get from people as they drove by in their then-unique xBs.

They probably have gone from a PT Cruiser to a New Bettle to a Mini then got their Hot Lava - now they are considering a TC or the new Mustang (if they can afford it.)

A guy I met at a meet said he was going to keep his til next year because "xB's will be played out by then" and he wanted to get something back before their value really started to drop.

I would say: don't use a car as an investment unless it's handmade.

Those of us that have the orange x'bs did not pay more for the same thing. for the 980 extra we paid we also got:

Not to mention, Scion will continue making all the standard colors. In two years when there are twenty silver or white xb's in your area, maybe you wont think we got such a bad deal after all.

I had an Integra type R, a numbered, limited edition car. You got a lot more than an Integra GSR and to me it was well worth the extra money. You cannot take a regular integra and make it a Type R w/o spending more money than it would cost to buy a type R to begin with.

I think I am looking for a real meaningful difference. If it had a factory sunroof, or 4Wheel drive, or turbo, something that really made it different, then I would not mind spending more.
To me the hot lavas remain a marketing gimmick with no real meaning.

So the Type R had most of the differences the lava has (Different interior, plaque, unique paint, spoiler) but also had the upgraded motor & tranny. Yet, the difference was about $3k. So tell me again how a $900 difference is a marketing gimic and not a value?

Better yet, why would you loose the Type R and get a Scion? Seems like you may have the wrong car.

What would it cost to paint the car (properly) and add all those accessories? A tad more than $980 for sure. The Hot Lava was an exceptional bargain. They are not for everyone, thats why they have other colors too. I really like mine and wouldn't sell it at all. I didn't buy an XB because it was all I could afford, I bought it because it was the neatest, most practical car I have seen at any price. Boxes ROCK! :lol:

Those are things that are important to YOU. Factory sunroof =leaks, 4x4=more expensive insurance(and DUH this is not a jeep), ditto for turbo.

Happy for you, for me they represent the same value as any xb and a cool color that I really like that will become more rare as time goes on and all for the purchase of some options at near street value.

sh*t!... I wished someone had let me know that before I dug myself out of debt - got 32 rental houses, hired a mgmnt co. to take 10% and built my own house. I should liquidate before I get hosed!! :shock:

Kind of a broad rule - there are a million exceptions. Cars CAN BE a excellent investment (Scion though? hardly...), Animals?? (feeding rule) -- a lot of people make millions in investing in animals - AKC dogs??? I have a friend who retired at 35 who raises macaws and each laying season clears about $500,000 after expenses and has a waiting list 2 years long.

As with most threads, this one started out as a decent question and is evolving into people getting their feelings hurt about what color they bought and why. If you bought a hot lava to be "rare" or "different", well, that's your own deal. Maybe some people buy it for that reason and then feel silly about it later. Maybe some people bought the xB in any color just to have a different looking car. Those people will also eventually feel like it was a silly reason and they too will sell the car. My humble opinion: Never buy or do anything to be different because "different" is a gauge you use to measure yourself against someone else. Do what you do because you find enjoyment in it. Do things because they are good for you. Let the others have their competitions about who is better or who is more rare. Go to car shows to have fellowship with other people in the same hobby, not to see how many other people ruined your coolness by buying the same color or doing the same mods. I promise it will bring you much more pleasure and you will be ultimately satisfied with your ride, regardless of color.

The hot lava deal was a value package, you got a ton of accessories for cheap.

I got $1000 more when I sold the lava box.

Not everyone is selling there Hot Lava Xb's.I have one and am still enjoying all the attention it receives while I am driving it around.The other day while driving to work on I-30 here in Big-D I had a couple of teenagers pull up next to me in a souped up Chevy Camaro Z-28 beeping there car horn and giving me the thumbs up.I purchased this color because I thought it looked cool and it's what I wanted.I actually like all the color's that are available on the Xb.And everyone should buy what they want not what someone else tell's them to buy.I am still happy with mine and the day or year I am not happy anymore I will sell it.To each his own.Peace. :)

Maybe it is because the Hot Lava as a 2004 xB made up 10% of xB sales for 2004.
True the car won't be available in that color, but 2004 xBs will depreciate more than 2005 despite what color it is. You will probably still continue to get a higher resale with a Hot Lava than a regular 2004 xB though. But at 10% of total 2004 xBs as a 2004 it really isn't that rare (though the color will continue to be rare).
When the RS 2.0 comes out having another limited color will slightly devalue the older limited color because xBs in rare colors become less rare.
Selling a Hot Lava now and breaking even or even making money is a smart thing to do, because the owners have already driven and enjoyed the car and can buy a 2005 or RS 2.0 for the same money or less and actually come out ahead. If you like having the newest and best thing out there or would like to have a 2005 over a 2004, selling a Hot Lava makes sense. However, if you like the orange color hold on to it. I personally think the orange is beautiful and nicer than some yellow "short bus" or kawasaki green thing. I only wish they would have been available in Hawaii :(
In the end it is all a matter of personal preference.
