Hey all,

A dude who just bought an xB changed out his stock stereo for an aftermarket one, and says that the am/fm reception is really crappy now. He wanted to know if there was something in the radio wiring harness for boosting the signal that he might have missed.
I can barely plug in my toaster, much less re-wire an audio system, but does anybody have any ideas?

Yeah mine sucks as well. There are aftermarket products that say they help boots range, but I have never used one. If there is someone out there who could give us some tips that would be great.

I used to have an fm signal booster in my jeep. It helped, but only a little bit. I got it @ radioshack

hope this helps ya:

The 02-03 WRX had external antenna that you had to manually pull out from the roof. The '04s had a in-glass rear window antenna (similiar to the xB) that when ppl first upgraded the radio experienced poor reception. They later on found out that the '04s had powered antenna that required wiring of the radio harness power ant lead. This was unnescessary for the 02-03's. I have yet to confirm if the xB has a powered ant or not though.

Maybe the installer forgot or need to hook up the power ant lead on the wiring harness?

You need to add power to the antenna wire in the harness. The antenna is powered, without it you get bad reception.
