Default Car accident last friday and my car is not covered..

so I'd have to pay for repairs to the car out of my pocket.

Basically the whole front side of the car is damaged + passenger side fender, main thing is a passenger side rail (or some ____ like that according to the guy who did the estimate). The engine and tranny are still good. Camelback Collision Center quoted me $9k to fix the car. I have an 06 xB with 17k miles on it, worth probably around $13-14k.

I've already got some credit card debt so fixing the car itself is not an option for me right now.

I am thinking about salvaging the car and get another used beater car. Where and what can I do to get the most out of this salvaged car? Take it to a salvage yard? Have it towed to my place and part it out as much as I can?

Any sort of advice would help. Thank you.

Why won't the insurance pay? were you racing at the time?
try loan at bank for auto repairs they do it all the time. Use car title for security and they will add 2nd lein on title..Good luck with repairs,

yeah, seriously, why isn't your insurance covering it? did you get liability only or something?

Because my vehicle is not covered. I was not racing, it was heavy traffic on the freeway and I rear ended someone at about 35MPH.

Thanks for the advice but I've already got credit debts and I don't really want to add $9k more on top of that. I figured I can probably still get a couple thousand out of the car right now so I am gonna try and get a beater car from that.

Does anyone have experiences in salvaging/parting out cars? I just want to be able to get the most out of what I have so far.

as far as i know, and i could be wrong, but you usually can pay the deductible, and they will fix it, but your insurance would go up, but you wouldn't have to pay as much out of pocket

^^^His insurance ain't gonna pay squat if he doesn't have collision on his car! Deductable or not....which sucks big time...unfortunately I have a lot of experience salvaging/parting out cars, but every time I had to do it, the dealership took care of it!

Ron at Avondale knows a buddy who owns a Junk Yard or something like that, maybe shoot him a PM and he might be able to get you in touch with someone who knows what's up??? He goes by awesometc on SL.

Either way, good luck mang!

why would you get liability on a nice new car? liability is something you get when you have an old pos that doubles in value when it has a full gas tank. dude, you shoulda gotten better coverage and i don't think i have to tell you why at this point. so yeah, you'll have to salvage the car, sell it on ebay or something, and buy an old reliable car like an old toyota camry, corolla, honda accord or civic etc.

Did you buy the car out right? No loan? If you owe on a loan, I am suprised your finance company would allow that.

I would never take liability only on a car that was worth that much.

I hope everything turns out okay.

and now you are contemplating losing it because you didn't get enough coverage on your investment. now you have to salvage it and sell your nice new car for a pos. you took a gamble and lost and now you have to pay dearly. my tc is fully paid for, am i going to pay only liability? no, that thing is insured to the max cause i would rather pay a higher premium than get into a collision and have to sell it for a beater.

so it is up to you, take out loan to fix the car, or sell it and get a beater.

Yes, I think that's the most rational option for me right now. So what I am concerning about right now is how can I get the most out of this car right now.

well, you can part it out and restore what you can back to stock. sell whatever aftermarket parts you can. then put it up for sale on ebay or craigslist or whatever with the estimate of what needs to be fixed so you can sell it for a few grand.

That sucks man. I am so sorry to hear that. We all gamble a little, but that was a big gamble. Ouch! A $13,000 gamble with a less than $100 monthly investment. I could see not carrying collision on a my 1996 Mazda B2300 (which I still carry, why? who knows.), but not my 2006 xB eventhough it is paid for.

Man, I am so sorry to hear about your loss! I wish you the best as I said previously.

ckguy914 - sorry to hear about your loss man. If youi're convinced that you want to sell the car for dirt cheap and pick up the beater, I would suggest getting a 90s Infiniti G20. first gen or second gen - either is good.

As far as the future of your xB is concerned, I've been keeping a pretty good eye on the market and it looks like there is a market for salvaged xBs that sell for anywhere between $8,500 and 9k. I *might* be interested but I'd want my preferred body shop to take a look at it first to see how much work would be involved.

If you have pics, you can send them to clifford@mobilehid.com

Thanks and good luck. If you end up picking up the G20, there is a strong network of G20 and Nissan Sentra owners in the valley so don't worry man, you won't be alone.

If you truely have interest in the vehicle I can definetly try to take some pictures. Camelback Toyota already looked at the car and gave me an estimate, I can try to get a list of things that need to be replaced to you as well.

As far as I know, the engine and tranny are still good, just alot of frontal damage. I don't know if that would consider the car to be salvaged or not.

well, either way you might want to take photos of the wreckage so you can shop it around to various body shops. i'd love to pick it up but of course my decision depends on the work involved needed to get it back to running order and the cost of the vehicle itself.

if i were in your shoes, i'd try shopping it around to several body shops to see if someone there is interested in picking it up - since there is less cost involved for them to fix it up, you will probably get the most money for it.

just a thought.
