Default almost had a heart attack

Yo whats up everyone.....so i havent started my car up for a couple of days because im still waitting on a couple of more things before my car is done and ready for the summer. So i turn it on and i hear a clicking noise coming from my engine bay....i was OO S H I T....i thought i knocked a piston or a ring ....or a bearing....i dont know...or maybe a bad valve soo i take my car over to the shop were im having all my work done. So he takes a look at my car and BANG there it was a CRACK ZPI lightweight pulley was hitting the block here are some pics of the cracked pulley...I had it replaced with a stock OEM pulley.....

how long have you had it for??? when zpi gets back let them know and they should send you a new one.

good thing i still have my stock pully working as a paperweight on my desk.

but you say it was actually hitting the block? did something go wrong like the belt lost tension or something?

weird ive had my NST for over a year and zero problems till date. I am going to have to take a look at mines tommorow.

na there was no belt lost tension or anything....for some reason it cracked and was shaking and slapping againts the block

Weak spot at the corner of the keyway - overloaded or pressed on too tight - you in a really cold area in the world? Aluminum expands and CONTRACTS more than steel.

City or up state? would not have to ask if ya entered the info in your profile - some of you guys are so secretive! Just looking at the pulley the crack starts at the corner of the keyway which is a stress point and if they cut the corner too square instead of a smooth radius it would increase the stress plus the spokes are not helping by not being over the keyway which would help make it stronger.

Call ZPI, im sure they will replace it if its under a year old. But yes, looks like there was a possible week spot. They are back in the office. call them tommorow and speak to sean.

maybe upon going turbo, i'll put the oem pully back on to reduce the number of things that can go wrong...

its one of the more common pulley problems. ZPI will more then likly replace it for you. But i've seen it happen before not the first and wont be the last.
