I got Progress rear sway bar from http://www.newedgeperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=414

tools i use is
14mm socket and
two 14mm Ratchet Wrench.
hex key tool ( 3/16)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/tools.jpg

Jack up the car with Hand brake on. I removed the rear passenger's tire. it made it easy to slide the sway bar out.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/carjack.jpg

Now remove the those 4 bolts from under the car.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/bar1.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/bar2.jpg

now removing the Endlinks, just the lower nut needs to be remove, You can leave the nut connected to sway bar alone
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/Endlink1.jpg

You need the Hex Key to keep it from turning while removing this nut.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/Endlink3.jpg

Now slide the bar toward the passenage side where the wheel was removed.
Comparing the Progress Bar and the stock bar. Progress Bar weight almost twice as the stock bar.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/swaybarcompare.jpg

Now slide the new bar in.
Cut open the grease tube that come with Progress Bar and grease up the inside of the new bushing.
Put on the new bushing and new brackets. Then tighten the bolts and nuts.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/newswaybarin.jpg

I use the two Ratchet Wrenches to tight the new endlinks.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/newendlink.jpg

Passenger side rear view
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/Endlink5.jpg

Driver side rear view
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/Endlink4.jpg

I used the inner hole for firmest setting.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/gammatnt/car%20stuff2/Endlink6.jpg

Recheck and re_tighten everything.

What do the new end links do? And why is your car SOOOO rusty already?

Neothin

new jersey = snow = salt = rust

good write up :)

GammaTNT

i didn't even pay attention to the rust, I though all cars' bottom rust like that. Luck my area don't get much snow or flood.

The Endlink just connect the bar to the car's body. Progress Sway Bar comes with new Endlinks.

I only tested the car in a school's parking lot. Much less body roll. The car feels more solid. HR coilover will be my next mod.

I just installed the rear hotchkis bar and for the life of me can't get the two top bushing bracket bolts to thread back in the holes. Everything else lined up fine and it only took 20 minutes. Hotchkis provided 8mm allen head bolts for clearance, threads area identical to the stock bolts, why won't they take?

place a jack under the opposite wheel hub(rotor) on the other side of the car and jack it up an inch or two, the bolt is just a tad away from alignment, it's not an issue at all, the suspension just needs to be compressed a little bit to give you more space to use with the sway bar.

Why did you pick the progress over the TRD? And are those the Dezod endlinks?

Aroddalobster
01-06-2008, 07:15 AM
progress come with its own endlinks, and progress is has more adjustment settings than the trd. both from the same company anyway.

It all comes together now. Thank;s for the clarification.

Great DIY. One thing to add to the "To do list" when summer decides to roll around.

yeah same question as to why not the TRD, also seems alot better get cause you don't have to spent more on getting new endlinks.

Found this quote on the site...

"Progress has designed this rear sway bar kit to work in conjunction with the stock front sway bar to improve handling by getting the car to rotate more in the corners."

Does this make sense to anyone? I'm a bit confused. I was set on purchasing the Hotchkis Front and Rear Sway combo, but now I'm confused again. I might just purchase the Progress Rear Sway. I doubt I will ever need/use the front sway. HELP! :P

BTW; nice write-up! Will definitely come in handy whenever I do my install.

pretty cool that they come with the end links. im assuming that you just set it to the same length as the stock ones and lock it up with the nuts?

good DIY! thanks!

i don't remember checking the length.
I just bolt every piece together.
Maybe i should take it apart and check it again.

hmmmmm. not sure.

thread awhile back claimed it wasn't necessary, now if you do a front sway then yeah, an alignment will be needed.

nope. progress, trd only make rear sways.
there are others like hotchkis... i dont knot of the others bbut im pretty sure there are maybe not

I am running both the front and rear hotchkis sways... I did the install myself b/c I had the use of a bay at my local toyota/scion dealer (I have the inside track w/ them) and the use of a nice lift.

The reason that a lot of people dont install a front sway is that on the tC you have to literally drop the entire front sub-frame of the car in order to install it. Takes a few hours with the right tools and know-how. I will say this... having both of the hotchkis sways on...she corners like she's on rails! then I also have the TRD front strut tower brace...and dropped on hotchkis springs... handles so much better its not even funny. The hotchkis sways are wider diameter than most...and nice and stiff...
Anyone that rides in a tC like mine with the hotchkis TVS suspension setup... will be willing to fork over the extra cash to install the front sway if they cant do it themselves.

jsingh.... ^^ dude... if you cant do it yourself... fork over the cash to have the front hotchkis sway installed... you wont be able to wipe the smile off your face after experiencing the handling..... ***just a note***..... if you go with Hotchkis sways.... they are NOT designed to work if you only install the rear...as they are very heavy-duty stiff sways...

TylerC08
03-18-2009, 06:48 PM
^^^^Have you driven in a tC with just the rear progress sway/endlinks installed?

Mouse
03-18-2009, 06:53 PM
No I have not...I know the Progress and TRD rear sways were designed to work just as is without a front sway. I'm just saying that running a setup with a front sway as well as the braces...is very tight...and handles very well. But also I was stating that the Hothckis brand sways are not designed to just install the rear sway.
I have ridden in my friend's tC and he just has the TRD rear sway on TRD springs... it definately handles better than stock..but not quite as tight as having the front sway and upper tower brace.

Mouse
03-18-2009, 06:55 PM
I would put it like this....IMO
Stock= good
Rear sway + lowering springs = better
front & rear sway + lowering springs + strut tower braces = best

Aroddalobster
03-18-2009, 07:42 PM
f&r sway + COILOVERS = bestest

its overkill for most, but nothing much can beat that

but what about this set up..

DME front and rear strut bar
progressive rear sway
integra c pillar bar
and H&R sport springs

ill be instailing all this week expect for the springs will that be stiff just as stiff???

Aroddalobster
03-19-2009, 01:45 AM
i'd save my money and do the springs and progress sway. the rest you can do, but i'd put my money into something more useful like tires

I would think that a silicone based grease would be okay and not degrade the bushings. For some reason I thought I heard there was a lithium based grease for certain ones... but you might want to check with the manufacturer before you do it.

sounds decent... you will notice a diff. up front with that tower brace...
I havent found a whole lot on the C-pillar brace... as far as how effective it is for the amount they cost. I think if I heard correctly that it attaches via the upper mounting points fro the rear seatbelts.
hell...I had even thought of installing a full 5-6pt cage until I saw the end result of a tC that had flipped 7 times on the highway and the roof didnt cave in one bit. So the factory frame is like it has its own built in roll cage... sweeeeet.....

03-21-2009, 12:20 AM
^^ hatch... as far as aftermarket for front and rear sways, tower braces, lowering springs....yeah... it's a huge difference over stock... very worth the money for those mods. Mine handles like its on rails and very very little "roll" factor in cornering. If you drive a stock tC and then drive one that has its suspension modded like mine...its like night and day difference.

I didn't realize how small the tube was and just over looked it. But yeah shes all in and lubed up tight.....lulz..anyways

yeah its a great difference...im really wanting to get some dezod end links for the front now. but that will probably come way down the road.

Great write up. I just installed my Progress (stiffest setting) and even though I have read that the difference should be really noticeable, I was still shocked to feel it. The back end was nice and tight in corners and if you really yank the wheel the car actually feels like its almost oversteering a bit and just keeps sliding. Almost no roll.

Really excited. I think if you are going to mod just one thing on this car, this should be it.

Can't wait to get a suspension upgrade and some better tires.

Rocking the Hotchkis F+R sways at tightest setting, TRD springs, DC Sports front tower brace, and 8.5" wide rims with pirelli's. Handles on rails. Front sway is a bear though. Took me about 2 hours to do with a lift and all the right tools.

well i'm gunna throw this out there...i'm on hks coilovers, hotchkis f&r sways, trd strut bar and worn out toyo proxes4. it feels very unstable and rides like rock. body roll is minimal if i can get it turn in the first place lol. simply put, i can't stand it! i'm considering getting new tires asap, going to just progress rear sway and some hothckis lowering springs. 1 finger gap up front, 1.5 rear.

I have Tokico HP blues, hotchkis springs and F&R sways, ingals rear brace, DC sports front tower bar. rolling on Enkei RPF1's 17x8 and Falken 452's, and the ride is amazing! The sway bars made a HUGE difference I feel like I have much more controll over the car.

As for the progress bar, if I did not get an awesome deal on my F&R bar set I would have most likely bought a progress bar. It's the best rear bar you can get for the tC, good set up for a DD.
