Sorry the files are HUGE, but it is sweet when they change. They turn bright white to RED. All needles change. Looks hot :) I have many more designs in mind for the color change, and have done a few before but this was the first I took a vid of. Again sorry about the file size, I do not have software to edit them...

Price for a basic White needle - What color you choose runs +$35.00 over the price of a normal swap.

I can also do multi colors such as blue to red or whatever.

As always PM for info price as certain options will drive up the cost on the color change as white leds have to back them. And yes it is possible for me to do twotone setups or solid colors with color changing needles as well.

Only downsides to color changing needles is you cannot see the change in the daytime. It is a nighttime thing only. And white needles are not super easy to see in the daytime.

Thanks man :) I am doing a two color setup for my personal ride. Will change from blue to red. That cost a more than the white - "pick your color" change you see.

Not to hard really, just have to use filters under the needles and back them with white leds. Just takes time and patience.

I'm already distracted by the awesome job Jeremy and Garage1217 did on my needles/LEDS, having color changing needles would cause my insurance to skyrocket lol. Amazing work to say the least.

does this mod affect the accuracy of the gauges? i did this on my celica before and my spedometer ended up 5 mph off

Garage1217
09-21-2007, 11:59 PM
Depends on who does the mod :) When I do the mod, there is no change noticable ever. Any of my customers can vouch for that.

just gotta put the needle back on correctly.. nothing much more to that..

aen
09-23-2007, 08:52 AM
by any chance can you tell me how you did this effect?

filters under the needles..but where?

i'm picturing in my head that you have a filter over a second LED under the needle itself? i don't know.

i wish i had my car to run out and grab my gauge so i could see what you were talking about but i don't. so im trying to use my imagination.

=/ it's not working properly

helllp? should PM you but i'm posting from my cellphone and the button isn't showing up sorry.

The most popular way to do this is to make a new PCB board with LEDs and mount it behind the needle so it is more accurate.

aen
09-23-2007, 04:05 PM
i figured as much, but honestly, i don't really know how to do that =/

and garage said that he used filters on the first page

ScionJim23
09-23-2007, 06:48 PM
yea, you can use filters on the back side and it works good. I was just saying that the PCB board is another way to do it.

aen
09-23-2007, 11:01 PM
.....i had a dream and my dream said filters on hte backside.

how freaking weird.

anyways, won't you be able to see the color changes of the filter on the line it'self in the daytime?
and garage's video shows hte needle getting redder graddually, how did you do that? it seems that a filter would do it very suddenly. which is soemthing i'm not quite fond of.

your using your hand to move the needles...hahaha..i thought it was kinda funny

Garage1217
10-01-2007, 08:34 PM
Yep :) They are on my test bench. Also they move to fast for the camera to catch them properly when I switch power on. Another modder used the "fast moving blurred vid" to try to sell his uglyness but that is another story and that modder is long gone.

Hey guys. Just an update I am putting on all of my posts. Some of you swappers may know that the an7710sp power IC is no longer in production and not available anyplace in the usa. This was a wonderfull package size that was an exact match to the oem. Engifineer "Dave" did a great job locating it and figuring out the overall hvac mod so kudos to Dave!

This has caused a small delay in my shipping until a reliable alt was found and tested out. The new power ic is a bit larger but actually a tad quicker to install. I tested the chip thermally without a sink and it has no issues with the small requirements of the leds and is quite overbuilt! Since the original power ic has been axed, there may be different options people come up with. This is my choice to run with this package size and install method and it will be included in all of my kits. It will come pre-cut but not pre-bent as it could cause shipping issues in bubble envelopes. The legs are cake to bend with just your finger.

Below is an example of one of the chips I have been testing. The actual unit that will be in the kits is a different brand, but same chip basically :) Excuse the small amout of flux on the board *LOL* Just a test unit!

This is what the new power ic will look like installed. Again this model number chip works perfect but is not the unit I will be including in the kits. Visually they are identicle. Also to note the center leg is bent the opposite way and is attached to the ground pad "common" for the old power IC. The mount is rock solid and there will be no issues.

Sorry somthing that I do in house for my customers. But just a hint, you can do it with custom mounted leds or you can do it simply with translucent vinyl under the needle.
