I really believe that it depends on what kind of pants you are wearing...when I'm in my work clothes (khakis) I never get zapped but when I'm bummin it in gym shorts/pants I get the zap every time.

I got zapped one day opening the gas door...that was scary.

it's static... it's due to alot of things.

your butt rubbing against the seat, dry weather/climate.. and uhm.. yeah...

i would say it's a bit normal and nothing to be concerned about...

how would you prevent or minimize it? touch metal or the door prior to getting out of the vehicle

I have never been shocked by my xB. My son gets zapped whenever it is dry and he wears his fleece pullover. My wifes Honda Civic zaps us all the time during dry weather. You might be able to eliminate this by getting a ground strap to hang from the bottom of the car to the ground. These I have seen before but have no idea where to get one. They look like an old school power pickup for a slot car (braided cable). They are mounted to the steel underbody and are weighted so they contact or nearly contact the ground allowing accumulated static to dissipate to the ground. You must have an electric personality if you get zapped every time

Everything I touch shocks me. I work on computers, I can't touch a door handle without getting a lil juice.

I get shocked by my xB so frequently that I recently drove my dads pickup for some errands and it stood out in my mind when I didn't get zapped when I got out of it (the pickup). It was only then that I realized that ever since i've had the box I've gotten shocked every time I get out.

Good way to keep passengers from fingering up the paint though :-)

I've *read* that a ground kit can eliminate static shocks, but have nothing to back it up, personally. However I have been getting zapped myself for the last couple of weeks.

well at least now i know that im not an odd one out for having this happen to me... seems like a pretty normal occurance with the xb. I work selling forklifts and cranes and we sell static strips so ill just grab one of those and attach it to the bottom of the chassi and see if that does anything

In my experience, a ground kit greatly reduced my shocking experiences.

But if you really want to eliminate it for good you are going to have to shell out $1.50. Go get a key made that does NOT have the plastic on the end. Just a straight metal key. Besides making your pockets less bulky, every time you touch the key when it is in the ignition you will ground out to the frame of the car.

Simple fix.

hey, too much static can be a good thing. if your battery ever dies, you can jumpstart it yourself!

I put a cheap seat cover on for the winter and no static shocks...must be the type of fabric on the seats or something like that. I did learn to touch the screw in the door handle as I exit to release the static electric charge before I get out.

i laugh to myself picturing somebody sitting in their xb with a dead battery, rubbing their butt on the seat and then sticking their finger in the cigarette lighter to recharge the battery. i think it would be funny!
