Default Most miles travelled on "reserve"?

(*DISCLAIMER: First off, let me state this is NOT a smart subject to start some sort of competition over!)
I just haven't found any info about just exactly how much gas is really left in an xB's tank when your "low fuel" light comes on.
Soooo...have any of you HIGH MPG guys ever kept track of just how far you've gone on "reserve"?
I just pushed it a little for the first time, and went 42.2 miles after the light came on, with a tank that I averaged 37.08 mpg (until I finally chickened out and stopped for gas)!
Anybody else out there that's got some concrete info about "reserve" capacity, so next time I'm in trouble between fill-ups, I'll know just how far I can push it???

I am going to say about 2 gallons - somewhere in my notes (blog) I have probably 60 miles past the light coming on - best indication would be how many gallons it takes when you fill it again to the top because when the light comes on parked in a level lot at idle while recording the trip and mileage before pulling up to the pump my light came on and it took 10.004 gallons to fill it to the top. The most I pumped was 11.109 gallons almost a year ago - 4/29

Wow - that much, huh? I figured it was closer to 1 gallon, so anything over 35-37 miles after the light comes on has me on pins and needles.
Yeah, I typically fill up at right about 10.5-10.6 gallons myself. The two times I've "topped off", it's taken a drop or two over 11.1 gallons, too.

Yeah the first click is about 0.9 gallons from spilling on the ground so you can get almost another gallon in so don't short change yourself and think you can go beyond the 2 gallon limit by much. Maybe if I get it down to empty in the next couple of weeks while I have a garage I will pump out the tank and see how much is really in there when the light comes on. PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW!!

o, it's definitely in the 50+ miles range, i'm betting more like 2.5 gallons.

i'll drive 23 miles to work with the light on already, then drive home from work, then drive to the gas station the next morning, hoping i don't run out. probably do this once a week, yes it's bad.

One quick stop, start or turn and the pump runs dry then you squirt vapors into the engine instead of gas. Guess we will measure it when my tanks gets low.

I'm guessing the low fuel light comes on when you've got about 20% of a tank left, or about 9 liters. That's about 2.4 gallons.

I wish I'd kept track of wherever it was that I read whatever it was that made me think that...

Y'all can do the math to figure out how far those 9 liters ought to take you, but I sure advise against pushing that particular envelope. Remember - when you push the envelope, it pushes back!

I pulled into the gas station as the light came on. I filled up and the difference to the first click was slightly over 2 gallons.

I pump slowly - if you hold it wide open it may shut off even sooner from the gas foaming. The nozzel angle may affect it a little also.

I went another 41 miles after the light came on. And it took 11 gallons 'til the click. I am pretty shure the light goes on when its down to the last 2 gallons of gas, meaning you should be able to go another 50-55 miles if not more on level road.

Boy I don't know I usually get at least .9 gallons more after that first click . . . it is supposed to be an 11.9 gallon tank . . . sounds like you got mighty close there.

if you're judging from when the light first comes on it's about 2.5 gallons or so. The Gas tank is 11.2 gallons (including reserves I believe). I've pushed this little baby alot, and closest I filled what also at 11.15x gallons, I was shocked and nervous as hell. It was during katrina and no gas station was open in Miami... oh man that was bad. I don't remember how much I made but I'm gonna have to guess around in the 50s. But it's only an estimate since I didn't log the millage (I was just happy I got gas... @ 4 in the morning... but happy never the less)

Disclaimer: My stupidity doesn't mean you have to do the same, don't let it get that low

Ive gone from the High 50's to low 60's in miles after light has come on. Mine tends to come on at about 1/8 of a tank, so i know i still have 2+ gallons left normally.

The light is supposed to come on at the same time for everyone, but it doesnt. Some people cant get more than 35 miles while others can do over 60. Ive done at least 60 after the light without hearing any ''konking out''. I dare not push it any further.
Maybe one day for the sake of science i will put a small gastank /with gas in my car when the light is about to come on. then i will just run it out.

C'mon Box my friend, this thread has my name all over it, lol...you know how I roll, top it off to the tippy top and drive till Im nervous , I dont suggest that anyone do this...Im trying to cool it a bit myself. Ive gone 80 miles after the light came on, on several of my last tanks I put in up to 12.37 gallons (which was a bit too much because I saw some fuel spilling into my gas cap area), on my last tank in which I got my best miles worth (464) I put in exactly 12 gallons with no spillage. Dont follow my lead, Im not going to do this every tank for the rest my life, Ive had my box for a year now and I pretty much know how far I can drive it if worst comes to worst, Im in the process now of scaling back on the fill ups level and the low gas level.

yeah if anyone else does this and has some gas in their car, make sure you purchase a non-flammable emergency gas tank.

Dont want to hear about the "Giant oven that burst into flame" after it crashed.
