alright, so this is my first write up... of a mod i have had for a couple of days but since one of my leds went out i decide to do a write up while i fix it to show everyone...

let me know what you think

IN THIS FORUM YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO: light up your engine coolant holder

what you need:
1.leds(i chose white)
2.some wire
3.some tools(drill, wire stripper, and wrench)
4.about 20mins
5.good music

-okay so first you begin by removing the one bolt that holds the little tank

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup005.jpg

-then you continue by removing the hose and insert thing(if you notice... i changed my hose from the stock black to the cooler clear... which as you will notice will later also get lit!

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup006.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup020.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup008.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup009.jpg

-then empty coolant into some container

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup010.jpg

-next drill some holes into the tank(i used 1/4 bit which made the fit perfect)

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup013.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup014.jpg

-insert the leds into the holes

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup011.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup012.jpg

-i then used some hot glue to secure them in place and to avoid the possibility of any leakage

-connect all the wiring together ofcourse all +with+ and -with-... i wired it up to a switch inside since it is def not something i would like on 24/7

-then be smart and check for wiring errors or just incase any led is faulty and TEST them

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup016.jpg

-place tank back in place and bolt back on

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup017.jpg

-use a funnel to put the engine coolant back into the tank

-retest everything and you should have this:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup018.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup021.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup019.jpg

-here is a picture of the clear tube that connects to the radiator i told you about earlier that i also lit up:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup025.jpg

-here it is all together:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup024.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/martin124/writeup023.jpg

and here are a few random pics some are my car at a show and a cool lambo

cool!

but i agree with dakine - silicon would seal the job ALOT better i think! i bet some other colors would be cool lookin with the pink coolant!

OHH DAYM KOOL IDEA thx man i got to do this .. and yeah don't use hot glue i would assume the heat will make it come off.

Sweet! Try it with red LEDs so it looks like lava... or maybe just red kool-aid!! Yeah put some silicone on there to seal it up.

LEAKAGE?-the holes i drilled made an extremely tight fit... so i didnt even think i needed to seal them... i have actually had this mod for about three weeks now and there is absolutely no leakage! i think it is because the coolant never goes in that tank hot enough to melt... not that i know how hot it goes in or anything... but i have had no problem and i dont drive like a grandma...

-thanks again everyone i knew it would be a good idea since i first thought of it...

I actually joined the site after i read this. Please remember that both of those reservoirs are dealing with fluids that are under pressure, im not sure you really want to go drilling into those only to fill the hole with a led and some hot glue.

As for the one in the coolant overflow, it looks good. Did you remember to put a fuse on it? I understand it's not leaking now, but over time the glue will degrade. and fluid+electricity= no good.

You sure that is really under pressure? The lids are never on very tight, and if there was any pressure, I'd assume the lids would just pop off.

Still I'd be worried about drilling a hole in there, You could probably get a similar effect just putting the LED outside the plastic

Looks sweet though!

did you use an LED holder? Like is the LED just in the hole and thats it or what. I dont get that part.

If i dont do this mod, I will atleast get clear hose, that is so bad ___ and original, i would never think of that.

The tank is NOT under pressure.

Only the radiator.

This looks cool, but I think if I do it, I may do mine by just gluing a more powerful LED to the outside of the tank. Just to be safe. :P
