Is this possible? Sometimes I run into a store such as Blockbuster, go back inside house while car warms up, or like today stop at the flower shop for 3 minutes to get some flowers.
I tried locking my doors from the outside while the Box was running and I could not. I had the spare remote in my hand and would not work. I can't remember if I tried using the spare key from the outside to lock the doors.
Is this possible?
Thanks!

turbo timers will allow the car to continue to run after the key has been removed.

I've never understood how turning off the car seems like such a terrible inconvenience for some people. It's not like you have to crank the engine over by hand. And I don't get the idea that it's not inconvenient to fish a duplicate key/transmitter out of your pocket or purse so you can lock and unlock the car while the other key stays in the ingition.
Meanwhile, you're unnecessarily burning up gas and increasing the chances of someone smashing your window and driving away with your car.
Hey, it's your life.

To answer my own Q: Locking the door from the outside using the key works.

i believe that leaving a car running for 5 minutes uses about as much gas as turning it off and restarting it...could be wrong tho...i just think that starting a car uses "more" gass? anyone know :?:

Look at it this way. You turn off the key and the engine might make it through one revolution at best. If there's no spark the engine won't make it through the next compression stroke on its own. Also, when you turn off the ignition, the computer won't fire the injectors. So you have, at most, one revolution of unburned fuel mixture pushed out the exhaust or sits in the combustion chamber.
A healthy engine takes two to four revolutions to start. All those revolutions are firing, just not completely. For the sake of this argument, thought, let's say it's only the last revolution that counts. That would mean between turning the engine off and on you've wasted 2 to 4 revolutions of fuel.
On the other hand, an xB idles at about 800 RPM, or 13 revolutions per second, every second. So, in the time it takes you to open the door and step out of the car you've already burned more fuel that you would turning off and starting the car -- even if you figure that during the start cycle the computer is programmed to squirt more gas through the injectors.

to answer your question, i dont think the doors will lock if a person is not present in the car and the motor is running. its to prevent you from locking urself out.

yes but you are saving wear and tear on the internals from leaving it running

No. Every revolution is more wear.
The only thing that benefits from keeping the car running is the starter motor.

They say that cold starts are worse on the environment, but when your car's already warm, it's not as big a hit.
The remote lock won't work if your key is in the ignition or if a door is open.

Ok, you dont know jack about cold weather! I also wanted to be able to lock my doors when the car is running. ____es me off that I have to buy somthing else to make this possible. Winter is coming here, wont be long before its -20 for 2 or 3 solid months. Sitting in you car waiting for heat to come out of the ducts in that kind of weather is horrendous, especially when its new and you shouldnt have to on a new car.

but, if you are just running into a store for a couple of minutes, the engine is not going to cool down and not blow heat when you start it again. if you want heat right when you get in the car in the morning, get a remote start.

quite frankly... it is now illegal in NJ to leave an engine running while running into a convience store or any kind of store infact...
In doing so will result in fines up to 3000....
so is it really worth it?

I lived in Canada for a few years, with long stretches of 30 to 60 below and wind chill worse that that, so I know cold weather. I know about plugging the car in at night to keep the block from cracking, about bringing the battery in each night, about having the flat spot on a tire freeze in place, about sitting my ___ down on frozen vinyl seats and having my breath form frost crystals on the steering wheel.

any vehicle left running unattended is a violation. deisel, gas, car, truck, motorcycle.
(in ny they have idleing laws, which also cover this idea.)
and it has been 'on the books' for a long time.
also, if you leave the keys in the ignition with the car running, (reguardless of if you locked the doors) and your car is stolen. the insurance company will not pay you (or atleast deny your claim a few times.)
but on the real world side, i have never given anyone static about this. only if something happens would you get in trouble.

So, if ya know all that mr. high and mighty. Why dont you understand it? Too many Labatts? lol j/k
I dont want heat the second I get in the car. Due to it being illegal to leave the car running and unlocked. I just want to go out and start it, while being able to lock the doors. Its BS to have to spend money to do so, when all old cars can. Being that I just put down 17g's for a car, and now in the winter I cant pre-warm is pretty ____ty.
