The sincerest form of flattery is a Scion clone
Now what cars do you think they were based on?

Of all the products to copy, however, a car is surely the most complicated. Cars consist of around 6,000 precisely manufactured components made from a range of different materials. For a car to be cheap, reliable and long-lasting, says conventional industry economics, these parts need to be put together in factories with huge volumes, lots of expensive machinery and many well-trained engineers.
So it came as a surprise when counterfeit cars started to appear in China eight years ago. ...
Great Wall, a producer of cars with Monty Pythonesque names like Sing, Wingle and Sailor, makes a version of Toyota's Hilux, which it calls the Deer. It is in dispute with Toyota for copying its Scion models and with Fiat for copying bits of its new Panda. So far, legal action by foreign firms has proved nearly useless. The many writs, threats, injunctions and court cases have become embroiled in slow-grinding legal machinations, been thrown out on technical grounds or failed because foreign firms had not properly registered their designs. Foreign carmakers are reluctant to make too much of a fuss, lest they be excluded from a fast-growing market or generate unwelcome negative publicity.

one of our members in Team Scionrg brought this up a couple of months ago...we all got a nice laugh out of it. The xA wannabe has a yaris 2 dr front end, the xB wannabe looks like a cross between the old and new gen B lol...Im surprised they didnt try to duplicate the tC...whats the roof gonna be made out of? Plexiglass?
Oh yea. People on automotive sites have lots of fun ripping Chinese car manufacturers all the time... let's see what other "concepts" these fine gentlemen have come up with!

Now that last one really surpised me. They didn't even bother trying to make it slightly different. It's basically a carbon copy of the two car designs! The angles, contours, lights, etc. etc. are all the same.
Anyways, that's about it, I found it interesting so I thought I'd post it.

Want a Scion xB? Pick up the “Coolbear!”

Don’t like the Scion eh? Well what about a Toyota Yaris?

Or upgrade to a Corolla!

No? An SUV fan? Well pick up the Santa Fe then!

Or the X5?

Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier?

Always wondered what a Pontiac Torrent and Lexus RX-330 would look like if they mated?

Hey, it ain't just the Chinese ripping off Scion.
My best guess is that US automakers have been behind for so long, they ain't gonna take it no more and are trying their best to come up with their own knock-offs before the Chinese (that's sarcasm by the way...)
For real, this might be old news by now, but for those of you who haven't seen them...
Dodge Hornet Concept car (2006):

Chevy Beat Concept (green car),
Chevy Trax Concept (orange) and
Chevy Groove Concepts(black), all unveiled this year in NY:

You know Toyota's got something good when everyone else is trying to imitate.

Considering ALMOST ALL of the sub-assemblies for most "Japanese" cars are made throughout asia, it shouldn't really suprise anyone that Chinese mfger are copying Japanese cars. Hell, they're probably using the same molds, and tooling that they're using for the authentic toyota parts.

irritates me when car companys cant even design their own cars, they copy others to make money, thats cheesy, and wouldnt een consider them at all, just like the chevy HHR, thats a PT and a xB crossbreeded, thats stupid.
Ok bit of a lesson here folks.
Scion is selling like crazy.
GM has no real answer in the US for Scion.
GM builds a car to compete with Scion and get a piece of the market share
There is a difference between blatently copying a car, and selling as your own design and building a car to compete in a very hot segment. Camaro anyone??

its funny about those 3 cars that chevy made...they all surprising look like the scion fuse and if you think about it...the fuse came out about 3 years ago and now chevy decides to design these...just goes to show you how late the american auto industry is haha and the chinese xb has fuse style headlights as well lol

The Chinese are copying designs, Chevy/Dodge are copying trends.
But even with that thin dividing line... I think of it in terms of clothes. You can buy a Polo shirt (Scion). You can buy a fake Polo shirt (Chinese). Or you can buy a Mossimo-brand 'Polo-style' shirt from Target (Chevy).
And either way... Chinese knock-offs or American-trying-to-capitalize-on-a-trend, I'm not buying any of those cars.
