the shift release is under that little square. so you can move the shifter without having the key in the ignition

Yeah if you ever need to remove the center console pieces, you'll need to pry that up to move the shifter out of the way so you can pull it up. Just don't put it into Neutral w/o the Parking brake up.... (I did that once... errr, why is the car moving!!!)

lol, oh yeah, way back in the day, i parked my explorer on a steep driveway, and i didn't quite make the shift all the way to "p" it was in n, and i started to get out and took my foot off the brake and the truck almost got away from me. luckly i was able to stomp that brake down and prevent myself from having a very bad day.

You'll also need to know what that black cover is for if you ever switch out your tail/brake bulbs and tail lights to LEDs. Sometimes (not ALL the time!) the LEDs blow the tail light fuse. If you blow that fuse your brake lights will not work and your tC will not shift. (You could still drive your tC w/o brake lights, just pop that black cover up and shift away. I do not condone driving w/o brake lights! ) Just thought I would share that info with some of you.
