08 xB and xD 0-60,1/4 mile times
I have been looking around the web for quite abit and haven't seen any 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times for either of these cars. Anyone got any ideas of what they are gonna be around or what the actual numbers are?
there was a thread about a week ago with the new xb's times with braking, driving around cones, 0-60 times and all that good stuff. xb was first in every category vs its competitors except for one, braking, it came in second, first was a mazda. I think it's called the "validation tests". It showed it's main competitors and how well they did. I thought it was cool. I couldn't find it anywhere on the web except for on this site in one of the threads, try searching for it.
I am suspicious of that 0-60 time in the video, as the Mazda 3 has done much better than that in other tests. Actually, those numbers were probably accurate if they used all automatics, which would make sense, since the xB was an auto.
here is the thread for the video.

I think the link in this thread may point to a higher quality version of the video:

That video is awesome. It is what really sold me on the xB, and the reason I am getting one in black.

Every time I see that video I get really excited about the new xB...I can't wait to see one in person and drive it!!
I keep thinking of other cars to consider, I have test-driven 15 different models now and compared (in price/features/performance etc) the new xB to pretty much every car availible under $20k, and I keep coming back to the new xB. I just wish the damn boat would drop the hammer and move it!
I am glad I got my order/reservation in early, I think this car is going to be in short supply for some time, especially if they release it as a JDM model (as claimed in the IGN article). I just hope I can get to my dealer to test drive the first one before it sells (arrives sunday the 20th, can't get there to test drive until 6PM on the 21st...curses)!

I will be driving my Mazda3 to Chi-town tomorrow to drive and xB at the Backstage event. Maybe I can give an idea of how I think they compare.
At least as well as you can compare in a parking lot.
Most numbers for 0-60 on the 3 vary from 7.4 to 8.0 (most say between 7.7 and 8.0) sec for the automatic. That is with 160hp pushing a little under 2800 pounds. Given the higher weight and similar hp 8.8 sec. seems about right for the xB.

EDIT: Just did some research, and the Mazda 3 braking number is about 20 feet longer than others have gotten, I guess it was low-traction.
I often wonder the weight of the guy they use in the 0-60 test, I'm 230 lbs which adds over 7% to the kerb weight and 7% of 8 seconds is about 0.5 seconds.
I never see the weight of the test driver reported in Consumer Reports car reviews, for example, or with EPA fuel ecomomy tests.

I have found this calc to be somewhat close to accurate.

I am getting my Mazda numbers from autotrader.com, BTW...Scion numbers come from surfing this forum for the last 2 months.
The Mazda 3 weighs 2983 lbs and has 156 hp.
Calc gives 8.886
The xB weighs 3085 and has 158 hp.
Calc gives 9.026
There are tons of variables in a calculation, like gearing, tuning, torque, weather, driver weight, etc. The biggest one is probably launch technique, brake-torquing these cars would probably drop the numbers by about half a second (but it is generally BAD for the torque converter...you don't do it, do you?)

What is the difference in available tourqe?
From a dead stop the tourqe responce of each may be different. The 08 xB seemed to have a reasonably broad range tourqe curve. I don't have an opinion on the 3. The 3s version only has 150lb-ft. to the xB's 162lb-ft.
