Quote: When we last posted about Lexus' long-awaited LF-A supercar, which debuted at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show (photo at right), it was to announce that the production version of the car would make its debut as the pace car for the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix. Well, as we get ever-closer to production, the latest news on Toyota's supercar is that it will be available in both gasoline and hybrid versions.

Speculation has the hybrid version using the powertrain from the 600h sedan - a 5-liter V8 with a continuously-variable transmission and an electric motor/battery auxiliary power unit.

At the same time, the gasoline version will follow Toyota's Formula 1 cars in switching from the previously rumored V10 to a V8.

Yeah, the powertrain in the LS460 gets it through the 1/4 mile at 13.8 seconds. The hybrid is supposed to be faster... so maybe low 13s? Put the powerplant into a lighter, more agile car and you are easily looking at 12s. Needs to be there anyway to compete with the competition.

Can not wait too see. A lot of people are bashing the idea of a hybrid supercar. I am so happy too see a new concept such as this come into play.

Can not wait too see this on the market.

Hmmm... I wonder if it will be AWD.

Plus this would be nice too see...

Non-Hybrid: 5L V8 - 537 hp (400 kW) / 590 ft-lb (800 Nm)
Hybrid: 5L V8 - 671 hp (500 kW) / 738 ft-lb (1000 Nm)

Non-Hybrid:
Hopefully it will weigh like 3,306 pounds (1.5 Metric tons)

Hybrid:
Hopefully it wil wright like 3,600 pounds

Non-Hybrid:
Which would put it in the 11.5 - 12 second range in the quarter mile.
The 0 - 62 mph would be 3.6 - 4.0 seconds.

Hybrid:
Which would it in the 11.04 in the quater mile.
The 0 - 62 mph could be 3.1 - 3.3 seconds.

Now that would be an awesome LF-A.

Top speed would be governed at 203 mph, on both versions.

Also would be nice if some how Lexus figures out how to keep the mpg near the 25 mpg range, similar to the one found on the Corvette Z06.

No clue what the price would be like, probably between $90,000 - $100,000 (non-hybrid) ; $112,000 - $125,000 (hybrid)

Oh yah another thing have something installed in the on-board computer, so you can choose the gear ratio you want, have 3 different ones: Cruise / Sport / Race (F1), similar to the BMW M5/M6.

Also a revision of their 8-speed automatic. Similar to BMW SMG or Ferrari F1 Gearbox. So pretty much a semi-automatic.

It would be Toyota Formula One car for the road.

Something like this would scare the living day lights out of any car manufacture that Lexus is up against.

Also it be one of the first Lexus to be in the Ultra-Luxury market.

Comparison

- Chevrolet Corvette Z06: 505 hp / 470 ft-lb ; RWD ; 3,100 lbs ; V8 (7.0 L) ; 0 - 62 mph: 3.9 seconds ; 1/4 mile: 11.5 seconds ; 16 / 28 mpg ; $65,800 US
- Bentley Continental GT: 552 hp / 480 ft-lb ; AWD ; 5,070 lbs ; W12 (5.9 L) ; 0 - 62 mph: 4.9 seconds ; 1/4 mile: 13.4 seconds ; 11 / 18 mpg ; $165,000 US
- Aston Martin Vanquish S: 520 hp / 425 ft-lb ; RWD ; unknown ; V-12 (5.9 L) ; 0 - 62 mph: 4.9 seconds ; 1/4 mile: unknown ; 11 / 17 mpg ; $255,000 US
- Lamborghini Murcielago: 580 hp / 480 ft-lb ; AWD ; 3,500 lbs ; V-12 (6.2 L) ; 0 - 62 mph: 3.8 seconds ; 1/4 mile: 12 seconds ; 9 / 13 mpg ; $273,000 US
