Ok with the news of the Turbonetics kit being relased with an automatic option. I was wondering how this would work. I would think that you would go through a auto tranny like it was nothing. Anyone know how well this might work? Im sure they will use the piggy back system to control the rpms and all. But I am still skeptical on the life of a stock auto TC tranny.

Reason I ask is I bought my TC a few months ago to have a commuter for work. I got rid of my last car to get this one which was a Dodge SRT4. Needless to say I miss the hell out of a turbo. I bought the car to save on gas and the value of the SRT was dropping FAST.

Well im 6.4 and tried to fit in a manual tc and couldnt drive it comfertably. I loved the TC and thought that I would be fine with an auto tranny. Which I am definitaly, I just miss the power of the SRT. :tap: With the numbers that turbonetics is claiming that kit would push me back up to around the power I had with the srt. To me this would fix my longing and missing the srt so much.

So my question still is mainly....how would the auto tranny hold up? No im not talken about alot of track trips. I would mainly have it to be a sleeper around town and just for my own enjoyment on backroads. Not to mention I think it would be sick to have a auto TC that would have a FMIC sitting behind the grill. Mmmm sleeper....

as long as you dont abuse the transmission and run an aftermarket tranny cooler, you should be fine. I've been asking myself the same question. I need a reliable car that i can handle 2000 mile trips without a problem. Hopefully the turbonetics kit for the auto will be designed so that the transmission lasts, and the turbo kit holds up.

I think the biggest problem will be if turbonetics leaves the stock shift points as is we may see some problems with the tranie. There is also the factor of the stock torque converter. If left as is There will be quite a bit of heat genarated under load. Some of this can be addressed with a cooler, but the better option is get a cooler and remap the trans to take the load smother.

I do have some faith in Turbonetics that they will do what they need to in order to make the right setup. I dont expect to see them adding in coolers and all the extras you might want to add, but I think they will address the issues with programing everything right.

Of course this is just my opinion.

whats the problem with the shift points?

i dont think upgrading the torque converter will have anything to do with the heat thats built up. Heat is built up by revving the car.

depending on how much boost u run, it might be a problem for the auto tranny. the ecu may get confused on what to do under boost conditions. sometimes, the ecu will get stuck in between not knowing whether to upshift to downshift during WOT runs.

but i doubt u'll be running high enough boost to confuse the ecu. best way to drive it is to let the tranny shift under vacuum. (let off gas before trany shifts) it will lessen the stress on the torque convertor.

a auto tranny cooler is probably the best thing you can do for the AT. Most of the auto trannys problems come from over heating.

I have ZPI stage 0 and I feel that my tranny is not liking it at all. The main thing is that it shifts too slow. If I take off brake boosting off the line, I will bounce off rev limiter 3 times while the tranny is shifting from 1st to 2nd. Don't forget, this is ZPI stage 0 with less power. Th valve body is the best upgrade that can be done for this.

So you have the auto tranny too im guessing?
Lets say you dont brake boost off the line and just floor it, your tranny feels like it is slipping from 1st gear into 2nd?

yes, even if I don't breakboost the car flies like the bat out of hell. Smaller turbo, faster spool. Tranny slips a little less but still does pretty badly.

high stall torque convertor and valve body upgrade is wats needed for precise and fast shifts without slippage. Amsoil ATF also helps.

i have IPT's fully built race tranny on my boosted RSX auto.

esk=electronic shift kit. it was in development by some other company and a great guy on here went by the screen name of sciondad tried it out but it kind failed ZPI tried to develop one as well but the scion tCs DBW(drive by wire system) wouldnt allow it to function properly. Hence your best bet is to get the greddy ultimate emanage, it will allow to do everything you need ask joe(05_rs1) dude who posted just above under his brothers name...JOE GET YOUR OWN!!! lol im kiddin. its your best bet but ZPI does have thier own a/t upgrade avaliable for $1350 so you may want to look into that. :relief:

well not exactly. it lowers the engine output as soon as a shift is being made and certain conditions are met, creating less stress/load on the tranny during the shift and then reactivates the power after the shift.

it takes some precise tuning and precision to get the moments right. i havent really messed with it yet as i havent installed the EMU yet. but its very promising. having the EMS control the engine output is much better than getting a tranny controller.
