| Posted: 3/20/06 6:51AM Post subject: Copper Exhaust Manifold Gaskets? Lancaster CA Help? |
|
|
Once again, my OEM manifold gasket is leaking and I'm sick of it. :tap: Even when I had the Megan header on, it friggin leaked. Toyota has a sense of humor when it came to designing this manifold bolt pattern. Sorry, but 5 bolts covering 4 cylinders doesn't work well. IMO, great seal means 8 BOLTS.
So, I have been hunting down first rate copper gaskets that seal...even on irregular surfaces and came across these guys.
http://www.scegaskets.com/products/procoppex.html
Excellent gaskets and run less than $30 each....I just need to locate a dealer and see if they even make them for the tC yet.
If anyone has any other options...post them up.
<EDIT>
They need a manifold or header to design the gasket. They don't want to work from the OEM gasket I offered to send becasue their position is...they will just duplicate their problem. If anyone has a header or manifold..... :nails:

Yeah, even when I put the Megan header on, their cheap gasket leaked. Then I went with a new factory 1 and that leaked. Only thing left that I know of the copper with crush rings. |

Yeah, I've made several calls so far this morning. After reading alot of other issues for leaking exhaust gaskets...it appears that the occasional backfire can be attributed to this as well. |

| Yeah, SCE makes good gaskets. A lot of my friends that build big HP motors use them. |

Yeah, they make sweet gaskets. They even state they will do custom gaskets...but no luck so far, :nails: |

| you will probably be able to get them to make you one, but it will be pricey since it is custom. Good luck. |

Occasional backfire is possible and black soot on the engine block. |

I spoke with SCE this morning and he said they would be very interested in designing a copper gasket for the Scion tC.
I offered to send an OEM gasket, but he said he would prefer to have a header or manifold to work from. If he goes by the OEM gasket, he may just duplicate a problem since it is unusual to have a 5 bolt system. Toyota is using alot of surface area to seal instead of direct cylinder pressure from bolts.
Anyone in Cali able to help?

| Sciondad I have a stock header sitting around the garage right now (I live in San Diego) and I could probably lend it to them. Also when I get my ZPI manifold back from ZPI I may be willing to lend that instead or do they need the car also?? Anyways PM me if you are still interested. |

Cool. I believe there are several people sending in and hand delivering exhaust parts for them to develop our gaskets. Word has it, should be ready in a month... |
