Fujita is done with test fitting, they're in R&D atm supposedly. I think weapon R came out with one already and they had to redevelop and rerelease it because supposedly it reduced hp and worsened gas mileage. So i'm happy to wait for a better product

I did a lot more digging into the guts of the intake last night. It seems the maf sensor housing has purpose built in air flow restrictors & a precise air channel for the maf. In all honesty, Any attempt to replace this assembly will cause issues weather at lower or higher RPM. The only benifit I can see by adding an intake would be for cooler air from the fender. The maf housing is quite a complex item that IMO should not be tampered with and I mess around with everything *LOL*

I troll the web weekly looking for xD specific tech - it just isn't coming! TRD has a few goodies, but beyond that it looks pretty slim. There are some Yaris / xD components, but almost NOTHING for the engine.

Kind of depressing. Is there ANY interest in creating aftermarket parts for the xD?

I agree its depressing, the problem is:
1. A lot of xD owners tend to be really interested in rims and stereo equipment
2. The forum is disorganized
3. Theres about 3-4 different xD forums creating a big split among owners who would be interested in aftermarket engine parts.
4. Companies won't give a poop if theres no money in it for them.

My Fujita intake is currently on the truck inbound. Does anybody know, if the engine will need to be tuned after the intake install?

There is no way to "tune" your stock engine. Any intake should be plug and play, IF it is designed right.

Thanks I wasn't sure. I will be sure to check in with pics and an update on how it works, once I have it installed.

Would be great if someone could dyno one of these intakes before and after. The small amount I have read reports that most (if not all) for the xD mess poorly with the power band and reduce fuel economy.

I'd consider one if there was proof that they improved performance, but the VVT engine seems very sensitive to changes in airflow - I am suspicious to doubtful at this point...

Our maf is VERY precision designed and will have a hard time with any intake if the maf sensor is relocated into another housing. First time I have come across a setup like this.

I will take my car into a dyno shop if there is one available in AZ at no cost to me.

Well Fujita is the only one with dyno numbers and they have a really good build quality. The others are garbage i.e. Weapon R. I don't even think they did R&D for it, just fitted it and sold it. Thats why it was recalled because people were getting negative performance in hp and gas mileage. Plus I don't have a good experience with them after installing one of their intakes on my friends Altima. We eventually had to go to a shop to have the replacement maf drilled because there was no holes in it needed to install it properly.

Simply put I would only go with Fujita or altering just the piping/filter that goes to the maf from the filter side.

Not any free ones here, but you can dyno at Intense power or Azdynochip. Let us know how it turns out!

I'm looking at the dyno numbers supplied by Fujita and I noticed that the first run was done at about 81 degrees ambient and the second was done at about 71 degrees ambient.

Wondering how this would have affected the results.

Also not sure 2 ft/lb of torque is worth the mod. 5 HP is an increase of between 3 and 4% over stock. Not sure this would be noticeable to the average driver.

Not saying this isn't an improvement, it just seems pretty darn small.

I do agree about the performance $/gain but we are talking about the XD. My primary goals for this was to increase the sound and show with a bolt on and I think it is a good looking unit.

Wow, definitely no love for the Xd... I was 1/2 tempted in getting one once the tc paid off, but now thinking otherwise...

#1 performance mod you can do to the car is free up the garden hose size exhaust. Up to the resonator, the exhaust is very nice sized, after the resonator it chokes down to lawn mower sized pipe.

^^ bingo, that's really the weak point of our I/H/E setup. Honestly the headers and exhaust are brilliant up until then. Our intakes are fairly well designed as well, and almost impossible to improve due to the complexity... On the bright side, though, that makes the total cost of modding the car that much less!

Really, though, the xD is not designed to be a fast car. It's designed to turn heads when it drives by.
