Please excuse my n00biness...

Will I have any issues, such as rubbing or any type of subpar performance, with 18x7.5 wheels and 215/40 tires?

Thanks.

I would hope not since I am getting 18x7.5 wheels with 225/40 tires. Are you dropped at all? I'm dropped on NF210s, but there is a user on here that is dropped on DF210s with 18x8s that was rubbing. As long as you don't drop to the Df210s I think you should be fine.

Specs for factory offered 18" wheel (TRD):

"This 18" x 7.5" wheel has a 42mm offset and a 5 on 100mm bolt circle (P.C.D.)."
"Recommended tire size is 225/40-18. "

Tho' a pain in the a, a few hours of research within this forum and online is worthwhile prior to buying anything.

I did search, and could not find any questions from people with the same sizes as me.

So the factory offered 18'' wheel has a 42mm offset, I am buying a 38mm offset. And the recommended tire is 225, where as mine is 215. All other numbers are the same. So will those two differences cause any performance problems?

I assume you have already ordered?

Unless you are a racer of some kind the performance difference between 215's and 225's would be unnoticeable. (Tire brand would be far more important than such a small size difference.) If you are racing, then it could be anywhere from minor to unacceptable. Sorry to be so vague, but much depends on your needs.

The speedo/odo with 215's would read about 1.25% faster/longer than actual 'cause the tire diameter is slightly smaller than the factory rec'd size. (In general anything less than a 3% increase over stock dimensions is considered unlikely to pose a fitment problem and you are going smaller. Gauge inaccuracy would have to be taken into account if it's important to you.)

Bottom line: I would get 225's if possible but 215's should be fine depending on your performance needs.

Offset is important 'cause it determines how far the wheels poke out to the side. Too far out and rub can become an issue, especially with extra wide rims/tires. People with 8" or wider wheels have reported some problems with rubbing if the offset isn't right, but your wheels are 7.5" and your tires aren't monsters. Your offset would put the wheels about 4 mm further outboard - not far at all. So...

Bottom line: You shouldn't have any rubbing problems with that wheel offset, either with 215's or 225's, but I can't guarantee it. Shoot a PM to this guy with your offset question. He's very knowlegeable and helpful. http://www.scionlife.com/profile/DiscountTireDirect[/b]
