| Nice, my brother and I made the same observation almost immediately. Curious, you already did the measuring, whats the size of the piping? |

or perhaps a name brand filter would do a better job at filtering out dirt from your engine than a autozone special. besides, the stock intake/airbox is so well engineered that you prolly only gain 1, maybe 2 hp. thats not enough to notice and to me, isnt enough to risk sucking dirt into your engine. |

people dont put ram air filters on there car just for the 1-5 hp gain...its mainly cause it give it a lower tone when accelerating....i love the sound of intake...the factory box just doesnt sound cool..
thanks jspectoaster im gonna do this when i pick up my xD |

Tried the $25 short ram tonight - thanks for the tip on the disassembling the airbox - somehow I missed it myself.
Sound difference is not as distinct as I had with couple of other engines I played with, but still kinda fun.
Time to make a bracket to keep that thing in place. So far it's held with a zip-tie to the battery tie-down - does not move much, but can definitely be better. |

I did this with my Mini. The intake sounds was great. I've had other Mini drivers ask me what I did because they wanted theirs to sound like mine.
I used a Weapon R kit for an EG Civic. It came with a 4" bent and straight polished tube, a silicone reducer, a silicone breather hose, and an oil-impregnated filter, all for $35. I simply cut the tube with a little straight and a little curve and bolted it in. Worked much better than stock and I sincerely doubt that much worse than the $240 AEM "tuned" intake. Like the xD, the Mini filter and intake are front right. And like the xD, total length needs to be less than a foot. I wouldn't hesitate to do exactly the same for the xD.
I think you did a great job. |

This doesn't void your warranty? Sorry for the newb question.
Also, can you post your bracket picture? Thanks. |
