CUSCO Japan coilovers sneak peak!!!

A few days ago we finally got the Cusco coilovers on without a hitch and with perfect fitment. Mind you, this is the 1st vehicle to have the complete coilover system installed in both the United States and Japan, so it was a huge sigh of relief when fitment was spot on.

Aerodyne Industries in Garden Grove (located at 10302 Trask Ave. #A, Garden Grove, CA.) helped me in getting in contact with Cusco Japan and served as mediator and translator to get this project pushed forward with Hara-san. I was extremely excited to hear that Cusco Japan had plans to produce some Scion products. I've been a fan of Cusco suspension for many years. Their coilover designs are seen in many and probably most JGTC and WRC vehicles, which is the same design thats filtered down to their consumer setup's. Even their oil circulation technology is original and patented, needless to say I've been a big Cusco fan and their commitment to actual R&D.

In these pictures we had the coilovers set to a very low setting in the rear, hence why the rear's are so tucked but the next day I raised the rear back up to proper driving height to head down to Autofest in San Diego. I had an initial run around Santiago Canyon Rd. to test these out the other night, was pretty impressed but still felt rebounding could feel a bit tighter. While I was raising the rear I found that the rubber coupler used between the rear spring and car was crooked. I reset it and went to bed. Driving down SD the car felt better but we didn't drive it too hard.

When the show was complete and the xB taking home 1st place, all I could think about was getting home. We were driving up the 5fwy avg' approx 80 mph. Just past Carlsbad I realized that this has been a very impressive drive up thus far. Rebound still could feel tighter but then again any more and it would probably feel much rougher ride, still felt a bit of body roll as expected with this chasis let alone a Scion. The biggest compliment I can give is that I feel 100% more confident on the road now. I drive a TT 6spd Hardtop Supra and a GS both on rigid coilovers.... the box needs all the help it can get in the suspension dept. I can honestly say going into turns is much easier and feels like I can push her harder coming into each turn. which leads us to our next project *wink*

well I'll add more info tomorrow, but wanted to show you guys some pics of the best coilover system I feel is out there for the new xB's. Hopefully Cusco will see more interest in providing other products out there for our cars. GOD we need more suspension parts for reals!

also wanted to show one of my friend's car re-done... 550+ hp twin turbo wide body FX newly painted.... this was the group we cruised down to San Diego with... the FX and 350z both push over 550 hp.... and a few of the other Z's and G's were all boosted as well. Needless to say it was a fun drive!

I remember seeing that Blue Infiniti (it was grey then) at HIN Phoenix... it was like the sexiest car I had ever seen!

umm... the 2nd gen xb is not a bb. the 1st is a bb in japan but not the 2nd gen... its a rumion over there

Dampening: non adjustable (comes with CUSCO’s best setting for the vehicle)

Changeable Spring Rate

From street use to winding road setup.

Spring Rate: Front 6kg Rear 5kg

Height Adjustment Range: Front 0mm ~ -65mm (0in ~ 2.5in) Rear -15mm ~ -75mm (-0.6in ~ -3in)

Aerodyne Industries is reporting back to Cusco Japan to let them know fitment is perfect, so now that it clears R&D production will start ASAP. A big A++++ for Aerodyne Industries in Garden Grove. Quin and Andy have been instrumental and so accomodating. I'm going to try and get our xB out to their track events to help support them, I encourage anyone to do the same. They have an event in Willowsprings coming up soon.

what do you mean by changeable spring rate? are you saying we can adjust the spring rate ourselves or could replace the springs w/something else?

also can we adjust the camber also?

Camber can be adjusted with the bottom 2 mounting bolts. But if you meant pillowball mounts, if you look at the picture, the OEM top hats wer re-used.

So at this point in time, it looks like the K-Sports have the advantage. But I still like the looks of the Cuscos...

sorry I wouldn't even put the Ksports in the same league as Cusco. I'd rather not bash or hate, I used to have a few 240's and lets just say in that world, you'd want proven brands.

I'm sure Ksport by now has really progressed their quality and craftsmanship, but I for one will stick with CUSCO's original OG R&D. The Ksport bash threads on the 240sx forums and Zilvia scare me. I do love their Orange though.... and at those prices, really tough to hate on em' especially if all you use them for is to lower your vehicle.

The OEM hats were re-used for our application, i'm nto sure if the production will come w/ new top hats or re-use the OE ones but I'm going to lean towards re-using the OE's since it doesn't really help or hurt the setup at all and to attempt to keep costs low for the Scion market.

I remember seeing the FX in the falken booth at SEMA... I loved the engine bay, and the huge wheels.

I hope cusco will make some new sway bars for the xb that would be cool, maybe even a diff...
