I found these springs on ebay and I am wondering what opinion is out there on this product. I must say, I am interested in the Tanabe NF's. The price on these ebay springs are pretty good.

Look forward to your replies... |

SAE9254 is just guidelines set by the SAE for spring wire. doesnt mean that its made well. just that the steel used meets requirements.
the same way that hyundai meets safety and structural requirements. still doesnt mean that its a quality product... |

no offense, but have u been living under a rock? Never heard of "talking up the product" of course theyre gonna make these springs sound like theyre "high quality" and "high performance" point is theyre crap and its sellers like those who give our industry a bad name!
ive never heard of "roku" springs on any high performance car out there, i have heard of tein, eibach, hotchkis, etc etc

| For a measly $100.00 or so more you can get REAL performance springs. Save you money and get the good stuff. |

Living under a rock? I am new to the suspension game. When I bought my 08 I decided to focus on the suspension before doing any engine mods. My inquiry is research related. My wishlist consist of the Tanabe NF210, Strut tower, Sway and Chassis brace. I agree to go with the Brand name equipment. You guys have answererd my question and put to rest the confusion around the above part. |

Wrong!
The Japanese bB 2nd gen is built in a Daihatsu plant. That is NOT the xB/ Rumion.
Just an FYI. |

Just so everyone knows these cheap ebay springs are good for what they are. Lets face it, if you're getting springs you're just in it to lower the car, there's really no suspension upgrade really other than lowering the cars center of gravity.
I used springs from a friend which were just re-badged ebay springs which are pretty much the same as these but I'll leave that info to release under their own discretion.
As we were going back and forth with Cusco Japan to prototype the Coilovers we used these springs to ride around daily while the Cusco's were being tweeked.
Review.... the springs worked perfectly fine. THe front sits w/ about a 1 finger gap however the rear's were about 2.5 - 3 finger gap in the rear. This was definitely too high for my liking so we cut about half a coil off the rear springs maybe 3/4 of it, can't remember. But then the car sat with about a 1 finger gap in the rear's which was pretty good and looked nice. The ride quality was a bit noisy as expected but overall not bouncy at all. Ride quality was pretty decent, I've driven xb2's with Tanabe springs and feels the same except the Tanabe feels a bit lower and when going over speed bumps or driveways the Tanabe's felt a bit tighter but this may be because the car I rode on had 18's.
The rebound is nice, nothing uncomfortable what so ever. Now I didn't use these for a long period of time so I can't speak on their rebound characteristics over an extended period of time but initial response is nice. I would assume over time that these things would become bouncy just like every other spring out there.
PRO's....cheap and rides comfortabe
CON's .... need to modify the rear (easy)
hope this helps! |

My opinion: I'll pass... we are talking about holding up 3200+ lbs w/ springs that cost merely $16.25 each... (before shipping fees)
For durability parts like springs or shocks, I would go for known makers who do their R&D homeworks. |

here's a pic of our car w/ these cheapo's installed w/ 1/2 coil cut in the rear, you can see the gap.. it took about 2 days for it to settle in to about 1 finger gap.

a lot of overseas 'noname' vendors try to market their products as well, saying they'll meet specific SAE standard by showing what RAW materials they used, as opposed to the final product materials--sometimes doped with other cheaper materials to 'fill in the material'. they do offer a cheaper solution... a lot of the time, quality is reduced due to cheaper manufacturing processes, cheaper materials, and cheaper packaging.
not much R&D goes into these kind of off-the-shelf vendors, but if someone wants to try and give out a report on how it works, that would be nice.
things you gotta look at are the spring constant, and the overall dimension of the materials used--cross sectional area, number of turns in the coil, and overall geometry (how sharp the curvature is compared to stock). yea sure they may be using the right kind of materials, but they may not be using the right dimensions/geometry reducing quality/performance by a stretch.
IMHO, i'd stick to a brand name, suspension isn't something u wanna cheap out on. |

Are you talking about these cheap springs or all springs in general? |

| The different spring rates (from stock) of my Tanabes allow my wheels to absorb small bumps more effectively, keeping the tires in better contact with the road. As the springs compress, and reach the slightly stiffer rate than stock, combined with the lower center of gravity already noted, my xB handles turns and curves much more effectively and safely with less tendency to roll. I can feel what the vehicle is doing under me, giving me better control. Since the springs are an integral part of the suspension; IMHO quality lowering springs, when designed specifically for a particular vehicle, are a definite suspension upgrade. |
