Fitting a bike into the cargo area

Hi! I'm new to the boards and I'm in the market for the Scion xd Hot Lava Special Edition. I have a Large frame hybrid bike and I want to know if it will fit in the rear cargo compartment of the xd with or without having to remove the front wheel. I took measurements, but I'm still not sure and I have no way of getting my bike to the dealer to check.

Does anyone here own an xd and a bike and been able to get their bike into the back?

I was able to fit my bf's Schwinn adult sized bike in the back of my xD with very little problem. The seats in the back had to be completely flat and I had to move my driver seat up a notch to make sure the tire wasn't leaving a mark on my seat.

well my Raliegh mount. bike has the quick release for the fron and back wheels so i just always take them off but it looks like a tight fit if i left the wheels on but it could be done

I have wheel locks on both of my wheels, but I have the tool to get the wheel off. It would just take more time.

I think I did move the passenger seat up a click or two as well. My normal passenger is 6'2" so he puts the seat as far as it can go :? Which is much further back than mine lol.

I know I've seen the external bike racks that mount via a receiver style hitch on the back of a car.

Does anyone make one for the Scion?

That would be ideal and you don't have to mess with the interior problems.

I'm actually looking to get a Saris Bones 2 bike rack for my xD. I would put it in the car but thats just a pita to do that lol. They retail for $120 but I'm hoping to get one for $70-$80 :)

What does a receiver styled rack look like? Never heard of that.

It fits in the square tube "reciever" style (Reese, etc) hitch on the back of a car/truck. Can be easily slid in and ut by popping the pin and removing.

I like them because they keep the bikes away from the back of the vehicle...less chance of damage to your ride.

Oh ok, basically you need to install a hitch to even use that kind of rack :) I guess just using a bike rack only on a hitch would be ok. Then again I don't want to do something iffy to my car which might void the warranty. I only say that because I remember reading it either on this site or what the warranty does/doesn't cover. :ponder:

At worst you'd have to weld it to the frame. Can't see where that would hurt anything?

At least it keeps the bike(s) away from the body of the car.
